Broken Shade Cord

My drivers side windshield shade cord broke while raising it up. Now the shade is midway in the windshield.
DW wants me to "check with the experts"  before I try to fix it.
How do I get the shade down?
Can it be re-strung?
Or my personal favorite, replace all of the OEM shades...... but will still need to get it down.
