Why can't we attach photos to messages?

It would really be helpful to attach photos to some messages...  as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.  Why can't this be done?  Even a single photo per message would be better than none.

Just because, probably a data volume issue.  If someone wants a photo from you they will share an email address.

Yes, sharing via email does work.  But it is an extra step or two.

Times have changed data-wise.  Maybe it is time to reconsider the restriction.  It would be easy to restrict attachments to one or two photos with a limit (e.g., 500K).

It would be nice but the forum software is what governs as well. Steve has tweaked it to meet many requirements over the years but I doubt you will see it. I have not tried messaging with a link to a picture hosting site. That might work.

We have done this in the past and it does work, or did at one time.

Links work. But like you say, it's an extra unnecessary step.

Just reminds me how great it is that Steve and Michelle continue to keep this thing alive.

Regarding photos, if we include our email address in our profiles I believe others can send us photos directly. Worried about spam, privacy? That horse has left the barn.

That's for sure.  And having to host attached photos has issues of  increased bandwidth, slow loading for folks with marginal connections.

It's quite simple to insert a link from Google photos, a free backup service for your  photos that works with this, and every other forum around.  If there's any interest I'll be happy to write up a tutorial.  Once you know the technique it's a matter of seconds to be able to link to any number of photos.  I greatly  prefer to be able to choose whether or not I view a photo.

We have VERY MARGINAL wi-fi here, so loading pics is impossible sometimes. I have a Verizon 'Jet Pack' that I plug in when loading pics; super fast! I don't use the JP that much because I'm saving the storage (a great Verizon idea!) for when we get up north and have no wi-fi.

How about reducing the size of pictures, usually without making them smaller.

Our picture original size is around 4-5mb, reducing brings them down around 2 - 4 tenths of a mb (200-400 kb).

And the photos look the same and are the same size when view on the Forum.

It is easy to put in a link to anything including your photos that you have to upload to some site.  So you can add a link to PM but you still have to upload them to a public space out there in cloud-land.

Or just ask for an email address and sent the photo to the intended recipient.

Add pictures to a PM - You can do it (sort of)

Or upload your photos to an album on the forum and add the appropriate link in the PM  (looks like this smg id=3953 with square brackets at each end)

It works when you look at your PM via the Forum.  The email you get that says you have a PM on the Forum does not show the picture.

Save time, make a friend, get an email address.
