Shppard M100 steering box core core - who has and can I use it?

Trying again - looking for the Sheppard M100 steering box core - anyone know where it is? Was told that Forewheelers had it but that turned out not to be the case.  Please advise if anyone knows where it might be and I will FUP, looking to rebuild at redhead and put in my U-320

looking to do it immediately, core will be available again within 30 days after I get it

Tim I have been out of state during the time you were trying to contact us. We posted a message for David Damer of CA earlier this year. He made the swap of the steering box to  Bert DeWinkle while we were in Quartzsite. They are Forum members. That's the last home I know for it. I'm sorry for the delayed response.

Yes, Auburn WA, if you mean RedHead They have no cores at RedHead

Tim,

The DeWinkle' s are Motorcaders so if you have a directory you should find a phone number and email for them. Bert is a really nice guy and I'm sure he can tell you if he has the core. They have a dairy farm in Idaho somewhere around Mountain Home.

Could you have yours pulled and then drop it off and pick it back up? Or are you not in the area?

It takes approx 2 weeks.. Depending where you are.. a couple days shipping. They basically work on it the same day and then a couple days shipping back. All in all it took 2 weeks with weekends to get mine off and back in. If you have time.

You can pull yours and ship it to them, they rebuild it and send it back.  They will send a prepaid shipping label.  shipping cost gets added into the total.  Shipping to and from Texas was about $140.  They said total time was 12 business days.

Because of time constraints we had ours done at Chauk Truck Parts in Houston,  In one day, back the next.  As far as I could tell they did the same work as Redhead except for painting the top of the steering box red.  Maybe $20 less.

Some other things to check - There is a universal joint down by the steering box the connects to the steering column. Some have reported wear in it.  Very little wear feels like a lot of slop.  And a little toe-in adds straight ahead stability.

Think Tim knows all the above,if these Dewinkles had the box last they should have been given instructions on what to do.

I do remember thinking that redhead may sub out the boxes to this company.

Curious-- why do you think that?

 And does the other company blueprint the boxes or just rebuild them (i.e. do they have a large enough selection of bearings to be able to blueprint them)?

I understand they stock the boxes.  I think I called them myself as I live near riverside..

Hey Tim,  This is the company I used. They have parts and also a rebuild service, Very friendly and easy to talk to. They are located in Columbus, Ohio  Hope this helps...

I pulled a box off a coach and sent it to Redhead. From the time I sent it to when I received it was 2 weeks. I take it that you are not in Washington otherwise you could just take it off and take it to them.

Straight line says they stock boxes already done.  Read both web sites.  Maybe save money?
