8D AGM, O'Rielys - 4.2V Resurrection

So in hot humid FL, keep airflow
Left the Cool O Matin on accidently, thought solar switch was on :headwall:
7+ day of rain ...oh oh..

Talked to Steve at ORielys, he says hit it with high amp 30A 4+ days in a row then float..

I have no power in storage... hmmm
Flipped solar, 900watts, 50A on a PMS charge controler

7 days later 13.6V, put inverter load 5 min, 12.5... 12.8..
Put a battery tester on it with a load.. says good battery

Been using it for a week, light use, some micro ....no issues

Boy am I lucky, probally maybe have 80% capacity

You can charge it back to 100%.  Rate of voltage drop at a discharge rate is the capacity reduction that occurred.

The desulfurization should be able to bring it back I understand.

Sure.  The little pieces attach directly to the battery's at the battery.  Send a pulsed tiny signal through the battery's right there.

Powered by the batteries themselves.  Tiny current draw.

Caflashbob is referring to a Desulfator, an electronic device which costs about $25 on eBay, but you need one for each battery.
I have used them on each of my three 8D AGM batteries for years and even built them before they were commercially available.
Search "Desulfator" on internet for much more information.
Your batteries are definitely sulphated such that their capacity will be perhaps only 90% of original, however, a Desulfator (and only a Desulfator) will restore some of the lost capacity.

Note that there are some battery chargers today which do have a built in desulfator.

I have a schumaker ship and shore portable 15 amp speedcharger with desulficaton for at least 10 years. My success rate on totally dead batteries is about 2 ot of 3.

I have a Schumaker 10A brute force charger, and all I want to add to the conversation is this:

When a lead acid battery is fully discharged, no voltage, there are no ions in the water to conduct electrons from one plate to the other.  Patience is rewarded however and as more electrons travel from one plate to the other, because water isn't a perfect insulator, sulfuric acid begins to form and the once deceased battery will begin to conduct current and store electrons at a measurable rate.

How much of the lead peroxide fell to the bottom of the battery case depends on battery construction.
