Heart Interface Display Does Not Change From 0000

I started chasing down why my Aqua Hot will not fire.  The light comes on, it blows, and I smell diesel fuel at the exhaust.  And I got to the thought of maybe the ignitor was not getting DC power?  Anyway, that is another thread I guess.

The Heart Interface Link 2000 is doing something very weird.  I know it showed 13.5 or something when I bought the coach less than a week ago.  Now it reads 0000 no matter what I do.  I mean no matter what.  I press any and all buttons and nothing changes.  I unplug the telephone interface and nothing changes.  I unplug from shore power and nothing changes.  Including saying it's on shore power.  See the picture?  That is unplugged from shore power and no generator running.  So do I have a bad display, a bad battery, dying batteries?  The Freedom 25 seems to be working or at least the fan comes on.  The 12V lights work in the coach when unplugged.  Help! Thanks!

See if there is a reset button. If not unhook all power for 10 sec reconnect .. just a guess though..

Side note .. probably coil on aqua hot but Rudy is a better guesser than I am

Super Rudy reached out to me in lightning speed and we will talk through the Aqua Hot issues tomorrow. I am so glad the Tribute To Rudy was a living memorial...

Still baffled by the Heart Interface 0000 and nothing else changes issue. No reset that I can find.

Unplug the "telephone-like" connection at the inverter/charger for a few minutes.

Thanks.  I did that but only for 30 seconds at most. I will try again and drink a cup of coffee.

I have friend with a similar last name and we call him Wolfy. So if I ever call you that by mistake it's a compliment...

There is a procedure to reset the computer more than just unplugging the ribbon cable that you may have missed. Here is a link to the Link 2000 book that you will need.  Go to about page 30 and read how to reset the microprocessor and give that a try.  We have had to rest ours once for a similar problem after a battery change. We had to remove a fuse that was hid behind the Link 2000 in the wiring that feeds the unit.

Well just found out that link don't work properly.  The Link  2000 book is in the media section and I will have to hunt it down and  post the proper link if I can find it.

One other thought is to make sure that the on/off switch on the front Freedom 25 is off. I know that don't sound right but that is the way it works.

Well, Page 30 and the Microprocessor Reset Procedure worked!  I starting reading the manual yesterday and when I got to Peukert's Exponents I decided it was time for a beer.  They really should put the Reset Procedure earlier in the manual...  Thank you very much!

When that Link 2000 came out it was state of the art stuff.  It does a lot of things that are still over some owners heads. It is kind of like an old MS-DOS system. Compared to some of the new systems the Link 2000 looks stone age.
Glad you are back up and running.

So what DID work-- so we will know for the future?

Your freedom 25's serial number is over 100,000.  Our 97's was not.

Past that you can retrofit your inverter to have a Battery Temperature Management System.

Corrects the battery charging voltages based on the batteries actual temps.

Every coach made since has had such a system.

Your freedom 25 ,like ours did,  probably has  worn internal contactors.  Think ignition points.

That reduces the power output to charge the batteries. Mine was down to 70 amps versus 109 amps that was shown on the replaced inverters control panel later.

The partial sine wave inverter makes the microwave make funny noises and put out less power.

That is good information to have.  That means I might benefit from making a change.  I'll have to circle back on researching exactly what that change is.  Thanks.

You can have an integrated complete electrical system.

If you change your roof airs boards and plug in a new 10 button Dometic thermostat a Magnum inverter and it's control panel can with a magnum auto gen start networked into the system the coach is capable of auto temp and battery charging.

High or low temps or low voltage can turn on your gen as needed and turned off when not needed.

Repeat cycle as needed.  Option is to integrate a battery temp management system as mentioned and add a battery management system that learns the batteries.

Next piece is an auto combiner from blue sea.  Me-ACR.

Replacing  the batteries with the oem ones that came with the coach eliminates poor charging habits from damaging the batteries and prevents the engine batteries from needing a separate charging system.

Adding solar panels and a controller (magnum pt100?) can make the control of the system independent of shore power.

Lots of pieces and time and money but over time all can be done.

First is the combiner in my opinion.

Second is the battery temp management upgrade.

Then new batteries.

Lots of ways to budget build this but the results will not normally work as long or as well.

My suggestions duplicate what a new Foretravel and all other new coaches are equipped with and has for its operating systems.

Will operate your aqua hot system.  Gen start can be triggered by the bay thermostat zone 3.

Lots to learn.  The info is here.

Or just add the pieces as can be done.

I learned not to put new top quality oem mk gel batteries until a few solar panels were installed and the auto combiner.

Once damaged the batteries never recover totally.

If you intend to go from power pole to power pole then most of what I posted is not needed.

The engine batteries are only charged by the engine.

Easy to have them dead.

No change in shore power or using the generator.  Plugged in the whole time and running A/C's (it's uber hot here right now).  Checked the display a few times over the last week and all looked good.  I just looked again yesterday and back to 0000 and all of the buttons are unresponsive.  Any additional insight my much smarter than me peers?  Thanks!

I'm not sure if this will apply to your Heart 2500W inverter, but it does apply to the Freedom 20. (Same architecture?) I had a similar problem, 15 years ago, where the unit would invert but not charge. There's 2 circuit boards near the enclosure sides at 90 deg angle to each other. As I recall, the load connections between these boards is via 1/4" spade terminals. At least one of these connections had high resistance and the female terminal became annealed. I think I soldered all of them. The unit was still working when we sold it 3 weeks ago.
