Another Allison Question

Sooo..... we've been out twice in the last month. Once to the Pacific Ocean, the Grays Harbor area and then up north to Olympic peninsula. On our first trip when we were getting ready to leave I started the coach, waited for it to level out (almost level out) and hit the big D button on the shift pad and moved forward, hooked up the toad and left the park. A hundred yards down the road I noticed the Allison was not shifting out of third, ( there were two 3s on the shift pad not a 6 and a 3). When I pulled over I shut everything off, started it up again, hit the big D button and everything was fine ( it showed a 6 and a 1, which soon became two 6s ). Drove home no problems.

On our second trip when we were getting ready to leave, same thing almost. This time when I started the engine there where no lights on the key pad. The usual N-N was not there, and the big D button did nothing. I shut everything off started it up and it was fine, pushed the big D button and drove home. Just now sat in the coach turned on the key and everything was fine.

Anyone have any comments/ideas? ( besides that maybe when we go somewhere we shouldn't try to leave! )

Sounds to me like loose/dirty connections and or grounds at the key pad or module. Might try cleaning with electric contact cleaner.

Intermittent connection from the shift pad to the trans.  The trans guy mentioned removing the cable at each end and reinsert it 10 times.

Bad connections, that makes sense why it works sometimes and not others.

There are 2 LARGE connectors that plug into the ECU. Pull them out and reinsert them and your problem will probably go away. Sounds like communication problem.

Did it set any diagnostic codes?

This is the source, the manufacturer of De-Oxit.  This is the stuff to use to clean connectors.  Spray it on and corrosion and dirt appear to melt away.  Stay away from the can with the folding nozzle.

I did check for codes although I don't know how old they are, this is the first time I checked.
