Opinions/Experience on Fully Tiled Shower in Coach?

I have removed the old shower in my U320 and will be replacing it.  Spent many hours scouring the net for a molded unit that #1, had the lowest floor height possible and fit in the space, and #2 had the drain in the correct location.  My issue comes with #2.  I've remodeled/relocated the vanity in the bathroom to where the old shower was, so I no longer have to have the P-trap above the floor (shower used to sit over the wheel well so it could not penetrate the floor for the obvious reason that the tires would take out the plumbing!).

I am considering a custom built-in shower utilizing tile on the floor and the walls which will allow me to put the drain where I please.  My biggest concern is waterproofing.  I know that the Schulter waterproofing system is highly regarded and if installed properly in a home, will give a lifetime of leak-free service.  I am concerned with the installation procedures and products not holding up to the flexing and vibration that it will experience in a coach environment.

Anyone on here have experience with full tile showers and waterproofing in a coach?
Anyone done tile walls in a shower?

I've read about a silicone rubber grout that seems it would be much better than the standard mortar grout for both setting and grouting between tiles.  Can be colored any color.  Anyone use this product before?

Have you considered a Corian shower, I have had them built in a couple of different homes.  They can put the drain wherever you want and you do not have to worry about waterproofing as it is a solid surface.  You could also do the walls in Corian or tile whichever you prefer.

I have an 08 with a corian sided shower and a fiberglass pan.  The sides are very easy to keep clean and streak free, whereas any tiled unit will be susceptible to streaking and mold.

I have not.  The old shower was corian walled, and low maintenance.  Are you saying the floor could be corian as well?  I've never seen a full corian shower.  Actually never knew what corian was until I bought the Foretravel....  I'll be doing all new countertops as well, maybe I could get a package deal for new tops and a new shower.  Thanks for the tip.

The old shower was corian on the walls with a fiberglass pan.  My only complaint was the height off the floor and my head being in the skylight. I like the idea of tile as it will modernize the look.  As you say, it may be more work.

I think all of the IH45's have tiled walls and floors.  I think mine has grout but I will have to look when I go and get it tomorrow.

Personally, grout lines are a pain to clean and keep clean.  I would do solid surface for both walls and floor if it were our coach.

I did a custom shower in my Buffalo Bus. It had a slightly curved side so I used plywood with a couple layers of cloth and epoxy. I then used about 2 inch square tile. It never leaked or cracked. With a straight sided bus, you could use larger 18" tile like I did in our bathroom. It has a small grout line and much easier to keep clean.

Tile is going to be more work and like Michelle says, a solid surface is easy to keep clean.

I like the idea of Corian and low maintenance.  Likely cheaper and much quicker.  Need to do some research locally and see if there are any local fabricators that I can trust and get some samples/quotes from.

Our 2012 Nimbus has a fully tiled shower. It is grouted and so far we have had no problems with it. I squeegee it down after showers along with the glass door. I have had Corian too. Not much difference in keeping them both clean, but I do like my tile. It's a matter of being consistent with the wipe down.

Wouldn't a Corian floor be very slippery?

As we age, we need to worry about things like that.

Trent,

It can be you can put a clear grip tape on it or my dad felt his was too slippery so he purchased a teak mat that sits on the corian floor and gives you a wood surface to stand on.  He moved and no longer needed it so he gave it to me and my wife loves it I can go either way with it.

You might look at a custom made shower pan made out of a synthetic material.  They can be made to any shape, size, and drain location. There are on-line vendors, and I know Lowes did one for me.  The bottom is textured and non slip.  There is a lip around the top edge to allow the synthetic (corian or any other brand) of side walls to be installed.

There are many choices of colors and finishes.

I've looked, but haven't been able to find anything that you are describing.  Is this a fiberglass material?  Do you have any other resources you can share?

Here is a neat website for custom corian shower pans:  Custom Shower Pans

I saw one last night with teak inserts in it.  It looked beautiful.  I'm sure the teak requires periodic maintenance to keep it looking fresh.

You might try Home Depot for a shower pan  I got one from them.  I was able to pick the shape, size, color, and drain location.  It took a couple of weeks.  It's a synthetic material and then did corian walls.
