Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector Installation

Each time I install a new battery in the OEM smoke detector, I struggle to get it back into the mount on the ceiling. I decided to do a bit of research and buy a unit that would incorporate both smoke and carbon monoxide detection. I found a detectors on ebay for a maximum of $20 delivered from a U.S. seller. It arrived in two days . LCD Ceiling Standalone Carbon Monoxide Smoke Combine Detector Fire CO Home |....

I installed it where the OEM had been over the entry door area. It fits so no marks from the unit I removed are visible.

And for those who think this may be a bad location for CO detection, Carbon Monoxide is actually slightly LIGHTER THAN THE SURROUNDING AIR.

If anyone is using an unvented heater as aux. heat in their coach, this is a must to have. Catalytic heaters, if working properly, produce very little CO but do use up the oxygen in the confined space.

Excellent page about the hazardous products of combustion from fires. Good to get everyone outside quickly in case of a fire. While this is oriented toward firefighters, it's a good read for everyone, especially if traveling in an RV where virtually everything is highly combustible: https://www.firefighternation.com/articles/2012/02/carbon-monoxide-hydrogen-cyanide-make-today-s-fires-more-dangerous.html

They look pretty good but I like the ones that have a 10 year battery life. The seller is from Morocco?

Be they be powered off the house batteries or built-in. They should be tested and cleaned often. BTW, a good way to test, is to spill some Jamesons whiskey on the floor!  :headwall:

No, U.S. seller. Arrived two days after order. These take 3 AA batteries. I do remember Moroccan hash though.

I just used this one as an example. Another dozen or so on this page below and the seller may be based in other countries. I check the seller's feedback (more transactions, the better) and make sure it is coming from inside the U.S. Otherwise, shipping from China can take 10 to 14 days on average. Some are less than half the price and I'm sure work just as well. They all are made in China. Like I said, this detector arrived 2 days after I ordered it. I buy hundreds of items off ebay, quite a few direct from China, others from warehouses here in the U.S. I bought a big retro Russian 300 mm photo sniper lens located in Japan. I used PayPal and it was shipped from Japan and arrived in Los Angeles in less than 24 hours from the time I ordered/paid for it. Since it was sent registered mail, it had the Japanese tracking number on it. It sat in U.S. Customs for a month before they released it. A bit of politics here.
