Fan leaking seeping

This is a new area for me and I have researched the forum but would appreciate additional thoughts.

I am having trouble finding the plate that will ID the pump so I can try to locate rebuilding parts or vendor.  We are currently in Spokane.  We were headed for home but that's 2800 miles.  I did speak with a shop listed 8 years ago in WV and he needs the ID as some are not rebuildable.

I considered going to 20% Lucas and heading home but not sure if that's a choice.  Nothing on the ground but it does appear to have been seeping for awhile.  I checked the reservoir and it is just hitting the add level.  Filters and fluid were changed two years ago when we replaced the Sheppard.

Insight/options appreciated

George  ----  We have a 91 GV that uses power steering fluid for the hydraulic cooling fan and I have had good results by using a power steering fluid stop leak.  I get a drop of fluid leak out every now and then, but is not enough to warrant a fan overhaul  in my mind any way.  Depending on what your hydraulic fluid is,  try some stop leak and fill the reservoir and just keep an eye on it until you get more info to determine if an over haul is necessary or not.  It probably will be at some point in time, but you can probably get more time to get your ducks in a row to make that decision.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

Thanks!  We are from the Hampton Roads area Poquoson which means hill in a swamp.  Appropriate name.  We are headed to Missoula as soon as this is remedied.  We have Delo 15-40 for fluid.  Yes I hope to get home so we can work it with full resources.

Doesn't look like much of a leak.  Try 10% Lucas to start.............you can always add more.
Enjoy your trip.

Ours has leaked more than yours for the last 11 years. Guess I owned too many English cars when I was a kid so don't pay much attention to it.

Fritz, I didn't realize some hydraulic fan systems used PS fluid. Ours is one year later and uses 15-40.

The only thing on English cars (and motorcycles) that doesn't rust is the engine and drive train - always protected by a generous coating of oil.

Our fan motors have also been seeping for the 6 years we've owned coach.  When I changed hydraulic filters I added a bottle of the Lucas stop leak product.  I think the seeping may have slowed a bit - hard to tell.  Long as they don't drip on the ground I'm happy.

George I'm confused  ( some would say that's normal for me )  you said fluids and filters when the shepherd was done. But it's the fan motors that are seeping. They aren't connected are they ??

Having said that, we added Lucas to our "seeping" fan pump last month and it looks like the seeping stopped.

Bob,

Yes they are part of the same hydraulic system.  Our 97 270 has a single reservoir and from reading posts earlier years may have two.  But I know little beyond that.

Seal kit is [122.21.008.00] it was about $120.00
But if yours are like mine all you will need is the shaft seal it is metric 20-30-7
20mm id -30mm od- 7mm thick I bought 3 off eBay for 10.00
You will have to get motors really clean to find numbers

Also , The front motor will have a different Number on it because of the valve body that is attached  but the motor itself is the same as back motor
