Aqua Hot burner-fresh air intake shutter settings-

Thanks to all the info on this forum, I successfully replaced the fuel nozzle on my Aqua Hot burner. I also changed the fuel filter, cleaned the combustion chamber  and the U-channels. The system fired right up after re-install with no more black smoke like I was experiencing.
I have one question: On the bottom of the burner is the fresh air intake with adjustable shutter. I could not find much info on that component. The shutter was all the way open when I removed the burner, so I did not change that. Are there any specs that should be followed with respect to the percent open of the  adjustable shutter?

CDM,  Set the air shutter half open.  When the philips screw is pointing straight out the side of the burner, the shutter is half open.  The actual opening is 1/4 of the round shutter as half of the shutter is always closed.  Send me a picture and I can comfirm your setting.

If summering at high altitude, 7 or 8 thousand feet, and are seeing any black smoke, open it all the way.  Fully open is with the philips screw pushed as close to the tank as possible.

Rudy,  I am not questioning you at all, but when I had mine serviced in Q, the guy from Arkansas set mine wide open and said to leave it like that. 

Is he wrong?  Should I reset to half open?  Looking for your opinion on why he might have opened it up.

Steve,  Lloyd is correct with having it fully open in that the burner is not sensitive to too much air but is very sensitive to too little air, high altitude.  So, if fully open all the time, you are not concerned about traveling high up in this world and the burner will run just fine.

If one does not go to those altitudes, half open is just fine.  The factory sets the shutter with a meter, CO2 I think.  I have seen them so closed that with the blower running via my test box, the motor speeded up as I set the shutter to half open.  The nearly closed shutter was starving the blower for air.

So, from half to full open as one sees fit unless going high, then fully open.
