New "kill o watt type" Currant-Bluetooth-Outlet-Energy-Monitoring

FIRST UPDATE!!  I AM Not recommending Currant, until I work out issue with seller.  Unit is reading approx 80% off.  This was the reason for my low kwhs.  I will repost, and update again, and delete this, once I have resolved with seller.

SECOND UPDATE 09/19/2019 First inaccurate unit replaced by Amazon, second unit read kwh approx 50% low, talked to Currant, they offered to send newer, more expensive unit free, received yesterday, installed, saw lights on Currant unit, it was on, checked today, refrig and freezer were warm. Threw away approx $200 worth of food.  I am sending both received units back to Amazon
I do not reccomend this unit by Currant.

Hi John,
There is a firmware update available for your outlet which better auto-calibrates; your outlet is Bluetooth-only, so your phone will need to be close to it for 10 min or so to send over the new firmware. Can you try keeping the app open near the outlet for a little while so that it can take the update?
Thanks,
Harris

I also asked them how I can know I have the new firmware, they are closed till Monday, so I'll update again on Monday, when I hear from them.  The following I found in their app when I did a search h for "update".

The Currant Smart Outlet updates itself automatically via Bluetooth or WiFi as new features and fixes become available. These updates happen in the background of the App, without disruption to your use of Currant."

Earlier, first post.
So far, so good.  First day of 24 hours, 1.44 kwh on bluetooth outlet moniter with my Samsung RF20HFENBSR 3 door refrigerator.  The 33 width let me keep the pantry on the left side.  I've sealed all the vents, have 2 inch in back and 3/8 inch on each side per install instructions.

144 kwh per day for a week would be 1008kwh. This week I used little over 500kwh  That is for the house in Houston that has been close to 100 each day, plus 2 coaches with the AC's on in both.  Something is amiss.

Agree, last month went over my monthly 2000 kwh limit and rate went from 9 to 13 cents per kwh. Agree that 1.44 kwh sounds better, and is better than the estimated annual usage of 1.69 kwh/day.  [617 kwh per year]

Our Samsung uses about 1.7 kwh each day as measured over about 90 days. Our typical average daily total for all uses is about 3.0 kwh, more if we run AC.  On a better than average day our solar generates more than we use by a long way.

I have an  Extech clamp on meter too,  no bluetooth though but it does have a hold function and memory.  It is a handy tool.

Hello Bob, Great question, comparing the 19.4 cu ft MODEL RF20HFEN DIMENSIONS with the 17.5 cu ft RF18HFEN.  The  extra depth of the 10% higher capacity only required the walnut trim seen in this picture.  The trim matched the radius of the existing trim.  Those seeing this refrigerator have thought it came stock, that is how good this trim fits in.  It looks darker in the photo than it appears.  This of course will also lighten with time.

The extra depth on the interior is appreciated.  It let's us put in larger plates, etc.

Also I have attached a screen print of the bluetooth readout on my phone of the kwh used the last two days.  The first day was 1.44, yesterday was 1.12 kwh

Thanks for starting to monitor your refrigerator's power use. The energy guide sticker for your refrigerator says 617 kwh per year in normal use.  That is 1.69 wkh per day.  Keep on measuring over 60  or 90 days of regular use and let us know.  I know mine uses less when we are not in and out of it all day but on average it was very close to the energy guide sticker for mine.

Yes, no problem.  Since we do not use the ice cube maker, we use the ice tray for food and treats.  I took a picture to show how easy and with how much clearance there is.

Tulsa, could this exra depth, be another useful difference between the 18 (17.5 cu ft) and the 20 (19.4 cu ft) Samsung 3 door french door refrigerators?

Because of Roger's comment I will update my kwh usage at 30 and 90 days.  The first three days show using 1.44 kwh, the second day 1.12 kwh, and yesterday, the third day, 1.21 kwh.

I have the kill o watt coming today. I can then find out how much power this 22.6 cu. ft. that came in the coach when I bought it uses. I would have installed a 19.4 Samsung as I did in my Monaco, but I am not going to change it out to just use less electricity.  The ice cube container comes out easily but with the indoor ice and water seldom use it that way.

update: the kill o watt doesn't fit with the refrigerator plug attached. Need to buy a 90 deg. adaptor to make it work.

Craneman,

Is that purple thing, hanging in front of your microwave, your refrigerator/freezer door lock? I assume you made it; is it constructed from a soft "compressible" material, or more solid (like a cutting board)?

How do you know your amp meter is correct?  I have 3 of them all by different manufactures.  They all will read different .  The only one I believe (which might be a mistake) is the Fluke.

UPDATE!!  I AM Not recommending Currant, until I work out issue with seller.  Unit is reading approx 80% off, as verified with clamp meter and "Kill O Watt". This was the reason for my low kwhs.  I will update again and delete this once I have resolved with seller.

I emailed the mfg, I expect to hear back, have ordered a replacement thru Amazon at no cost to me.  This is their sole product with connections to Alexa and Google Home.  One of the nice features of the software is the ability to remotely shut off by bluetooth.

I am now using updated "Kill O Watt", verifies amp draw with clamp volt meter.
I am reading .965 kw. one day and .985 kw the next. If these are too low because of the Currant error I need to figure out how to get an accurate reading.

UPDATE!!  9/20/2019
I am back to recommending Currant.  New firmware they provided now gives an accurate reading.  Their support thru email has been excellent.

My previous issue loosing power to my refrigerator was caused by bad power in the rv park (low or high voltage) that I am staying in.  This was verified by both the Hughes Power Watchdog 50 Amp Smart Bluetooth Surge Protector with Auto Shutoff and with the Currant device. Currant tech support gave me the same time of power interruption as the Hughes device.  The Hughes bluetooth software sends a message to my phone when the power has been interrupted and cause  The Currant softward gives me the time of interruption.

Since the Hughes unit is ahead of the Currant unit, I now know my issue is with my park pedestal power.
