Puerto Penasco Paint

This is being added as a topic for an Option to those that were talking about Vinyl wraps and such. limited on how long they last and for a little more money than just stripes you can paint the whole RV.

I will start this off with a disclaimer... You do not have to use this service nor do you have to reply to this topic if you do not want or like this Idea or option. this is for those that are interested in it. I will also say please keep it on topic.

IF you are looking to have your rig cleaned up or even painted. I did so a couple years ago in Rocky Point.. was very happy with the price and work.. Perfect? No but for what I spent it is worth every penny and probably double.

Mine cost me $1500.00 and I supplied the colors and the clear. Chuy (pronounced Chewie) did the work using his paper/tape and Primer.

I had approx 1/2 of my coach painted with the swirls and 4 colors ( I believe). I bought original BASF paint but Chuy will provide and match if you want. He uses Dupont.. Either paint is good and will work and hold up... I prefer original and a match to original.

Now Chuy has a couple ways he can do the work which would be
1) at the Rv Park.. Play Bonita on site in one of the spots (plenty their).... The wind did not blow but they do have a breeze and it did not kick any dirt up but it was outside... I did have 2 spots where water (condensation) got under the paint on 1 lip .. I will have it fixed on the next round.. He did offer to take care of anything I seen when I come back so I will plan another trip.. soon

2) He has a shop just a couple blocks over from the Rv sites. He has a paint booth he uses.. I have not seen it to say if it is professional or not but I wasnt to worried about it either. He will allow you to stay at his place at no charge while he does the work. The Playa Bonita owner does take a portion of the overall charge for any work performed on the rv site (keep that in mind).

He is a little difficult to talk to if you have limited spanish which I have very limited (as in none). His son speaks english well .. When I was getting my work done he was working on a few others at the same time...

The work he did for me was about $7000.00 in the states and I had a total of about $2300.00 into it with material by the time I was all said and done.

I will add a link into this topic of one I helped set up a repaint of his rig and he is totally happy with his (still is).. He spent $7500 for a full body paint with swirls and all..

This works for some and others it does not.. I did not make this topic to talk about who can and can not paint in the wind or what parking lot but to give some options to others that have time and do not want to spend the extra money (not needed in my opinion). He does good work and again.. it might not be perfect but as mentioned before for $7500 full body paint in mexico vs $30,000 in the states its almost a no brainer depending on budget..

Their are others in rocky point that also paint but I have not used them and they are probably just as good Maybe better but I have never used so I could not testify to them..

Your other option is to us Xtreme in Texas.. I have not used and others will say they do a perfect job but again.. never used and I will trust the ones that have.. to me ... to spend 1/4 of the money and to get a good quality job.. works for me.. Also do not forget when you add your costs to have any work done (anywhere for that matter ) to add in travel and so on...

We wanted to visit Rocky Point and to get some other work done and I am glad we did.. We will be headed back in March/ April area to do some more work on the coach..

Again this isnt a Chuy vs Xtreme as they 2 different animals... 2 different spectrum of pricing and quality..

1 thing I will have done next round is a full body wet sand on the whole coach..latches painted and everything will look new..

David, While I would love to have Extreme do the painting on our coach, Mexico sounds great. Thanks 😊 guess I will have my cat scratched Captain's chairs recovered too.

The guy I used for rebuilding the foam padding on my captain and passenger seats was a guy named Munoz.  He has a shop in Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point).  He also redid the fabric on our dining chairs and repaired a couple of tears on my Yukon driver seat.  I think it was about $650 total.

David does really good work.. I used Sammy but cant recommend him .. His work was good... just slow..David has 6 people working for him I think he said.. Also keep in mind... It is called Mexican time down their... If you have a 9am appt.. they show up when they want.. maybe 10-1030.. Never on time.

Thanks for the info and links. With the original swirls deteriorating slowly on my 96 it is always good to know the options going down the road.

Without seeing what you have originally.. you can always incorporate the new scheme to cover the old.

I've been taking cars and furniture to Mexico since the 1970's. They have always done outstanding work for a fraction of the cost here. The big plus is having your dental work done at the same time. I have had a few cavities done but when I got a quote for $14K for a big bridge and front cap, I had it done at LG Dental in Puerto Peñasco for $1,300 and they even took my personal check. More modern office than here also. Bridge is still perfect 6 years later and I don't have one dark front tooth (from a fight in high school).

Mexico has a lot of choices for paint. Many of our major airlines have their jets painted and renovated in Mexico. Giant hangers and the latest paints. For a lot less, Los Algodones is right on the border and the body/paint shops can send someone across the border to quote prices with your RV still in the states. Los Algodones (Molar City) has a population of just over 5000 but has 350 dentists. Here is a WiKi quote: Los Algodones, Baja California, is a small Mexican town located on the extreme northeastern tip of the municipality of Mexicali, approximately 16 km (9.9 mi) west of Yuma, Arizona, USA. Its official name is Vicente Guerrero, and it is informally known as Molar City, because of the large number of dentists that cater to Americans It does get really hot here in the summer so be prepared for that if traveling that time of year. Check the YouTube videos for RV paint, etc.

Puerto Peñasco is a good compromise with excellent beaches, great restaurants and RV parks right on the water. All just one hour's drive from the border. No, it's not in the tropics with plants with huge plant leaves or iguanas on the roofs but still fun, especially after a happy hour pitcher of marguerites. Munoz did a great job on our seats and came to the RV park to do the R&R. His shop is a hole in the wall but was reasonably prompt and had a huge assortment of fabrics. I checked every day to make sure it was exactly like I wanted.

For a little longer vacation and adventure, the Pacific coast of Mexico is the perfect RV trip. So many RV parks on the ocean and then the retirement destination that many ex-pats have chosen to make home,  Lake Chapala and the "Pearl of the West", Guadalajara. From Euro class shopping to one of the largest markets under one roof in the world. World class medical faculties, dental and any RV work including Allison and diesel overhauls at very reasonable rates

What a talent! But I see a Rocky Point, NY address not Rocky Point (Puerto Peñasco), Sonora.  I'll take a Kraken on one side and a huge Godzilla on the back. Perhaps a scene of him coming up out of the Potomac.

What kind of price would that be I wonder to have a custom mural on the rear of the coach, say some mountains or beach scene?

I saw Antonio paint a mural on the back of a coach while in PP last December.  It was impressive.  The owner had a picture of mountains in CO.  What he painted was not an exact copy, but it very closely resembled the pic.

If I wanted a scenic mural on my coach I would hire him to do it.

The guys that did work for me were happy to accept US$. 

When going to restaurants or other vendors, I used a mix of dollars and pesos.  I did the conversion rate in my head and decided which was better for me.  Typically restaurants used a conversion rate of 17 pesos/dollar.  The cambio was closer to 20.

And, in many countries, a credit card with no foreign transaction fees give the most favorable exchange rate.

Been there, done that. Just did that for the last two months in Australia.

So I would like to have the coach painted and a mural on the back done this coming February or March after quartzite, in Mexico. What is the best way for me to start the process? Also would like my Jeep painted to match maybe...and my Jeep seats reupholstered. They are perforated heated and cooled seats so I think I would have to bring my own leather for that? Not sure of the exact color scheme yet but have a idea. It would not be a complicated paint scheme. I have a facebook account now, so asked to join twigs group on the mural painting. I understand that they take credit cards? Wouldn't be comfortable taking 8-10K in USD in cash there. Or anywhere. Also want the roof stripped and painted, and a nonskid applied.
Any help on this is much appreciated.
