Operating Temperatures

I am on the first leg of our trip towards Mexico, and I am a little "rusty" about some things. What is a safe operating temperature for the engine, transmission etc?? You would think I would know the answer.....

For your ISM11, coolant temp should be about 178-180°.  Transmission about the same to +10°.  Retarder temp is about the same as transmission to +10°.  Retarder can spike to 240 - 250° very quickly.  Under loads, big grades, high ambient temps, all of these temps can be 10-15° more.

Just rule of thumb, your temps may be slightly different.

Those number are pretty darn close to my 400ISL driving outside of Las Vegas in 98* this Summer and pulling a 4500lbs ford Explorer and climbing a grade. 198* on my coolant temp.
