names of air dryer parts

good afternoon,
can someone name the parts in the pictureof  for the air dryer?

1-the black can with haldex written on it.
2-the pink part in the upper right corner
3-the small part that's orange/white/yellow in the middle
4-the black part that looks like a funnel under the pink part.

if you can explain how they get put together that would be great.

1,desiccant canister,2,coalescent filter,3,pressure relief valve,4,purge heater shield.
You take the old parts off the dryer and put the new parts on,easier to take the whole dryer off and put in a vise and clean the
housing and the old parts you will use,if you are rebuilding yourself,best to also get a DQ6020 kit also.

My Polish look alike was half the price is is not distinguishable from the Haldex cartridge pictured above or the German Meritor/Wabco. No need to take anything off, just spin the old cartridge off and the new one on. Takes perhaps 2 minutes with a good strap wrench if someone overtightened it. The cartridge does say HAND TIGHTEN. New dryer assembly is about $89 delivered with $20 up for a replacement cartridge to carry onboard. Haldex/Meritor/Wabco air dryer: AIR DRYER ASSEMBLY - REPLACES MERITOR WABCO SYSTEM SAVER 1200 SERIES R955205...  Almost 5 for 5 rating.

Photo above looks crazy. Where to all the parts pictured go? Replacing the cartridge is no harder and exactly the same as a spin-on oil or fuel filter.

Those parts go on and in the body of the dryer.

Do you have a bolt on or a spin on dryer desiccant filter? The one Lt401 has in his photo is a spin-on type. It even says "hand tighten" on the side.

I can't imagine why anyone would want anything but a simple spin-on type. It is nothing to convert from the very difficult and dirty to change bolt on type so instead of hours to remove, clean and change the desiccant, you can change in almost zero time. I can even take it off and see if there is any white desiccant that is loose and all in a couple of minutes. The old style air dryers are just that, old style with nothing but disadvantages. I think I have about $100 for a new spin-on assembly and spare desiccent cartridge.

Those parts are in addition to the canister, and they fail. Brett recommends a complete rebuilt dryer after 2 canister changes. We all have the spin on.

yep, ours is a spin on and has all the parts shown in the photo....

My U300 or any other around our age didn't have a spin-on. Perhaps the later Foretravels do. At well under $100 delivered, why bother with any parts if you want to do more than spin the filter on? Just put a wrench on the two air lines, unplug the electrical and a couple mounting bolts and round can it. Cheap and perhaps 15-20 minutes. A crow's foot, an extension and a ratchet will loosen the air hoses in a flash.

I just checked for my Meritor/Wabco dryer and no kit is offered, just the spin-on and a supplied O ring. I feel confident in my Meritor/Wabco selection since they supply all the disk brakes for Foretravels. I replace ours at about 80K with this being the first replacement in over 20 years. I see that in light use, three years is the recommended interval. With the new spin-on and a spare, I should be good with only a new cartridge needed far down the road.

In replacing the entire assembly, once the fittings have been turned even a quarter turn, they come off easily by a couple of fingers.

I found out when I changed my spin on that there is both a 2# and 3# air cartridge. I got the 3# from Trans West. $189. I'm sure I could beat the price online, but they had in stock. The only difference was the 3# was taller so some might have interference issues.

The more you research, the more you realize you don't know it all. Here is an interesting page with some info on oil-coalescing cartridge (as it is an OEM standard) you must replace it with a like unit). This type of cartridge is found on 2010 trucks (2010 to today for Freightliner, Western Star, Navistar, Kenworth and Peterbilt) so would include Detroit Diesel and Cummins. Probably the reason for replacing some parts on this type of cartridge.

Earlier Foretravels can use a regular replacement cartridge, spin-on, etc.

Two questions. 

1.  Attached is a pic of my air dryer from the side.  Is there only one model for the "Pure Air Plus?"

2.  This is a Youtube video I found on rebuilding a Haldex air dryer.  Is it reasonable good in describing the general steps?  Note that he did not rebuild the purge valve, but mentions the DQ6020 kit.  Nice pics of the heater too.

1. Back then there were actually 4 different base models. DA33100, DA33110, DA33140, and DA33220. The ones that Foretravel used is the DA33100. Now you can only get a remanufactured Pure air plus unit which is the DA33100X.
For those who will ask, DA33100 12VDC standard
                                    DA33110 24VDC standard
                                    DA33140 12VDC heavy duty
                                    DA33220  12VDC special Holset
Now out of those base models there were about 50 different versions. I can't remember all the sub numbers off the top of my head.
