Opening Jack knife couch for better access

Is there a way to operate the jackknife so we have more room to operate under it?
The most I get is about 1foot between the frame and bottom of the raised seat.
I ain't that thin, nor do I have 5 year old present to crawl inside for me.
TIA

I don't think so. I usually just kind of balance it at that point to do work under the couch.

I do the same as jor.  If you have the storage drawer under the couch it can be removed to get a little more working room.

On mine there is a brace that limits how far up it can go. Undo it and you can get a couple of more inches. You milage may vary...

Not that I know of. I just removed it to take out the bose system and install a pioneer amp and sub. Lots of bolts hard to get to  as I remember. Have to do it again soon and not looking forward to it. As you say, you have to contort yourself in ways that people our age find it a bit uncomfortable...... Also when I did it I made sure I had my cell phone handy in case I got stuck... not kidding.

If this is the Flexsteel, lift up the bottom enough to reach in and remove one bolt and one not on each end.  Then you can lift the seat bottom out.

Made the front panel of the Flex-Steel drop down, that way can store plastic tubs in there

If it's like mine, and I bet it is, I took out one bolt on each side to remove the seat so I could replace my water pump relay. I never put the bolts back in because I only use it as a couch.  I just pushed the seat back into position. Good thing because I had to go back under there and replace the water pump.

Is that a bolt that holds the seat to the tilt mechanism?

This thread is useless without pictures.
Now that I've had a good night's rest and the Saturday buttermilk waffles, here you go.

Thanks! I was just about to crawl under to take pic's of mine. :) I just undo the front upper nuts to get an inch or 2 more. Sometimes that's all you need.

When we began our odyssey, a thoroughly chilled Mr. Shackelford told me we weren't moving in until both furnaces worked.  So I pulled the entire front furnace out for inspection and pulling those four bolts and moving the bottom seat cushion somewhere else was the only way that job was going to get done.
