RV Armor

In an effort to compare roof coatings I sent a message to RV Armor roof system.  I reviewed their online video and was impressed with tbe quality.

After filling the online form with my coach details they emailed me with a quote.  Their charge is $150 per linear foot with a lifetime warranty no matter who owns the coach. The total was $5400.  I don't know how much FOT, MOT or Extreme charges, but I thought it was pretty pricey.

OK, John, what is wrong with your Foretravel fiberglass roof that would have you contemplating spending that kind of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$?

If you took a zero off, it would still be a lot. Must be ostrich leather. Yes, what is wrong with your roof? The lifetime of a company can be pretty short!

Not looking to spend that amount of money or to have my roof done.  Just wanted to see what their price was and it was ridiculous.

I have roof repairs due to satellite removal and another plate from another satellite system that was left on the roof that I removed.  Making room for solar.  A lot of holes to fill and some spots where the gel coat came off. I will be doing the work myself.

So what you're saying it's okay to spend $25,000 on a paint job that's mostly cosmetic, but it would be inconceivable to spend $5,000 on a coating that would essentially seal out the elements on the roof? Well I would neither pay $25,000 for a paint job, nor $5,000 to coat a  roof, I see no reason why someone willing to spend $25,000 for that paint job would spend another $5,000 to have their roof coated. And if you're talking about someone's coach like Mine, a 1999 U 320, which you can purchase for around $50,000, that would be more than 50% of the original cost of the coach, which to me is kind of crazy. But if you're talking about a 2010 which you might pay over $200,000 for, that would be more like what 8% or so. and of course it all comes down to whether or not you have the disposable income to do that kind of thing. Having just spent a couple of days up on the roof of my coach removing hardware replacing etc. I see that on a older coach like mine some kind of protection would be nice. But spending $5,000 on it well that's kind of ridiculous. It can be done fairly easily for less than a thousand I would think. But then that just goes to the old question about labor. Doesn't cost much for the part but you'll pay through the nose to have it put in.

When I had my coach painted in 2011 at FOT they did the roof too. It was a $1000 add on.

Has anyone besides me thought about using white spray-on or roll-on truck bed liner?

Chuck,

I loved the old Mercurys but especially the Lincolns of the same years. Just about the same car with different chrome, they had front ball joint suspension and kicked rear in the Mexican Road Race of the 1950's. Read about the great memories here: https://s3-prod.autoweek.com/s3fs-public/AW_TBT_20160505_LaCarreraPanAmericana.pdf Porsche Carreras are named after this race.

T-Man,

What a great idea about the bed liner. I would think that rolling would be an excellent way to apply without making a mess.

Bedliner is tough.  I have Linex in my truck bed now for 19 years and actually rolled Hercules on the ramps of a 4-post lift that were damaged in transit.  At the time it was done for aesthetics, but it turned out to be a real sound deadener when laying tools on the ramps.

I wonder what Linex would charge for a roof?..........just curious.
