Wipers

Anyone experience this before?

On our recent trip we encountered rain, usually not a problem.
Except on this trip, upon occasion we'd get some cross wind that would slam the DS wiper to full extension.
It always came back in sequence and parked properly.
Could it be the motor?
Could it be the "gearbox"?

A search didn't find anything related to this particular issue.
Rain-X allowed us safe passage home.

I would first check and see if the motor is still securely attached to front of firewall.

Just went through this. The serrated part behind the arm, that goes on the shaft, got worn. It banged so hard, it broke the arm, so I switched the pass side to drive to Arizona.

Bought a new arm on Ebay, correct Brazillian made.

Knurled Driver (300637)

They may have the arm too. But check the price. Was on the road, and got hosed. Paid $117.00 + shipping else where for arm. Forgot to asked the price. Bought a second arm when I got home.

I see you have a GV. So check the parts I listed. But it's still the same deal that happens. Fixed a few on FT's

Frank, I check the wiper mounts frequently. What's letting the wiper blade fly out is the spring. If it is getting weak or breaks the wiper arm can flop freely. I don't know if we can get those springs, but if someone finds a good source I think there would be somewhat of a demand.

BTW, you have TWO wiper motors, one for each blade. When one fails (and it will) you can get another one from FOT. The caveat is that both sides use the same motor, but the bracket that attaches the blade to the motor has to be reversed. When ours failed a few years ago I ordered one from FOT and specified that it was the navigator's side that I was replacing. They didn't reverse the bracket, so when I tested it the blade went down instead of up. Took a bit to get that figured out.

Checked the wiper motor, everything seems nice and tight.
Checked the spring for tension, seems firm.
Pulled the wiper arm, knurled drive nut looks fine, actually looks new.
Wiper arm has smooth shiny spots in it's drive spines, small but very apparent.

David, good information about those wiper motors and the reversed bracketing for CS, bookmarked, thanks!
Guess the search is on now for replacement wiper arms, seems I recently saw something on that posted here.
