What does the Hydraulic resevoir-pump supply?

I know this is for power steering but what else does this service? My friend asked me and I couldn't answer other than power steering assist.

You have only the one reservoir, not the large one and a smaller one??

With two, the larger is for the cooling fans, the smaller for the power steering.
