Generator Fuel line temporary repair?

Hello all,

I have determined that I have a leaky fuel line somewhere leading to my generator.  I have removed the fuel line to the pump and added a wet tank and the generator ran great although it flew through the fuel! (thought it was supposed to use a gallon per hour?)

Anyway, I am leaving on a trip in just a couple days and do not have time to do a line swap and I am afraid I might need to use the A/C units on my drive.  Could I simply run a temporary line from the pump out and around the generator and attach it to the filter behind the box?

Has anyone ever tried something similar?

As a get by this will work just fine.  Make sure that you tie  the line so it don't flop around in the wind as you drive. As far as the fuel usage did you think about most of the fuel goes back to the tank through the return fuel line?

I did not! I will keep my fingers crossed that was the case otherwise I will likely go broke running the a/c!!

Mine had the same issue. We just ran temporary lines to where we could get to a spot on the original lines that looked good and spliced them in.

Your generator flew through the fuel because most diesels (exception of some CATs, etc) return the majority of the fuel to the main fuel tank.

Do you have the side or nose generator? If side, you can change the hose in less than 30 minutes without even sliding the generator out. That's assuming that you can get to the supply line at the fuel tank like on our U300.

I have the nose type generator.  I think I have to slide the generator out to even access the lines. My lines go under the generator to the dark side but leave the generator box up high. I figure my temporary repair would simply go around the side of the generator box out the front with one of the panels off.

If the lines are leaking at the generator, it might be wise to look at the fuel lines going to the engine. On my previous Foretravel coach the lines showed signs of seeping fuel as the lines exited the coach over the rearend area. I replaced all the fuel lines on that coach with Teflon Stainless Braided hose . The job took about 4 days to work thru it.
