2 cents of prevention

I always have my ladder out getting ready to roll ( windshield etc. ) so when the awning goes up I always run a zip tie thru the latch and thru the hole where the brace drops into. Keeps the lock from dropping down and prevents that initial " blowout " to occur. Do it at the rear of the awning as well. No lock there I just run it around the shaft. Only takes a minute and it's cheap. So far it seems to work.

Good idea and nice polish on the awning cover! Good to have UV restive tie wraps so they don't break just when you need them.

Well that's just a great idea, and something I've always worried about since the prior owner told me his story about the awning flying open while under way one time.  Thanks for the tip!

Great idea football fan, my locks work but don't trust them so I use two strips of Velcro on my arms and have had no problems

I have seen the roll open up with the arms latched together.  Desert winds got under the cover and partially unrolled it until the end locks stopped it

Good idea. I have the crowd feet locks but they are misaligned and until I can fix it this will work.

Bob check the arms for being vertical. I moved the crows feet and later realized the roller had shifted and the arms wern't verical.

Thanks craneman. It's due to my making my own awnings, the fabric is slightly thicker so the don't line up like before. But I will check to make sure the arms are good too.

The previous owners of ours used the Velcro strips, too. I've used zip ties and that has also worked. I like the idea of a zip tie on the lock itself. Some of the roads we've been on have been rather rough, and it suppose it is possible for the latch to come unlatched. Ours has two latches, one at the front and one at the back as well as the center one.

If you lock the latches then pull on the strap it will normally move a little.  Hence the cover lock
