I just bought a 1995 U300 can someone tell me what this valve is for?

Looks like it is used to circulate engine coolant to heat your water heater tank

Foretravels usually have all the options.  The Atwood water heaters have the "motor aid" option which heats the water with engine coolant while driving.  The idea is you have at least warm water after driving for a while.  In my experience the water heater still has to run a little before reaching the normal temperature.  During winter you may want to close this valve to direct more heat to the dash heater which shares the same water flow circuit.
