rm7030 dometic fire suppression and control

So we are in the first thirty days of ownership of our 2001 U320. many projects but would like to start planning on a item I have little knowledge about. I've searched the history but don't really have a clear path yet. Our fridge is original and seems to keep up. I do wish to retain the absorption system. I think we will end up getting a new Amish cooling system eventually.  Till then I wish to safely use what we have. there is no aftermarket temperature limiting system or additional cooling fans.
rm7030 Dometic
recall status unknown
1 What have most installed for the overtemperature control and will that include the cooling fans
2 Is the Amish unit the way to go or is there a better absorption system to install
note; I will be installing a 3lbs Halon automatic system regardless. in possession. regardless of systems installed
Also it was 112 Deg today, 12% humidity in the shade
Thank you for your input. Scott

The ARP overheat control seems to be a well thought out device.  As you say, the portable Halon canister can be tucked into the burner area.  Pierce's technique of lining the inside of refrigerator cabinet with 1/4" Hardiboard is no doubt a very good idea.  I'm with you, the  gas refrigerator offers enough advantages to justify some additional measures for safety.

Will second the ARP controller.  Far better to prevent over-temperature in the boiler than to try to put out a fire started by over-temp.

Yesterday I replaced my cooling unit on my Dometic. I pulled the fridge and doors and laid it face down on the coach floor to do the job. Got the unit from JC Refrigeration / Dutch Air..2 weeks ago when my unit quit I found that the sheet metal heat flu had melted a bit of insulation that was against it.. I bought 2 sheets of 1/4 in concrete board and lined the compartment walls from top to bottom.. Also installed a Dutch Air 12 volt fan on the upper part of the unit..There is a place labeled for it on the new unit.. Fan is thermostat controlled.. 100 here yesterday and this morning the unit is cold.. I see no way for a fire to catch in the space as all surface is fire proof board.. I need the propane option on my fridge and thanks to Pierce for putting us on to the fix. I have no concerns now of a fire spreading in that compartment ..Backed up with adequate alarms so now find something else to concern over.

I am also a fan of the ARP device. You can install it yourself and can check the temperature of your boiler anytime.

Purchase Fridge Defend by ARP | Dometic | Norcold | RV Safety | RV Reliability
So I do live in the desert
I'll call tomarrow and buy what they think I should have. Probably go fat on fans. So I also think the icemaker has the compressor.  I'll find out if it is serviceable. If anyone knows anything about it please let me know. I too agree the fireboard is a good addition of weight. Thanks for the input and ideas

ARP, 100% best out there today, (Awful web site - Good Product) you can still use it when you convert to the Amish system too. Another idea. Some I know of have converted to a DC Compressor, assuming your enclosure is still in good condition and compatible, not for the faint of heart, but way less $$$ than a Resi Fridge Retrofit.
