Surround Sound Receiver replacement on 05 U270

The Sony STR-DE597 Home Theater receiver in my 2005 U270 needs to be replaced.  Has anyone replaced theirs?  The problem seems to be the amount of room available in the cabinet above the driver's side and the availability of a replacement.  This particular model has been discontinued by Sony.

I searched quite a bit also. I put in a Yamaha. I think this is the model. The depth is just under 13". With the cables connected on the back the volume knob just clears the door. I also used a HDMI 90 deg connector to make the connection to the TV easier.

Use a 12V car head unit with a smart phone/tablet/laptop to add processing if you like and then into an amp. Car audio wins a lot of shows takes up very little space. Everything is miniaturized today. I remember a Madonna album recorded live with a MacBook Pro. 12V is what's happening today.

With any RV, space is a premium as well as you have to convert the 12V system to 110V for the receiver so you need an inverter running when the receiver is on. Plus, the receiver convert it back to DC anyway. I'm just saying that for the best possible sound, an automotive head unit is the place to start.

When you are young, everyone's hearing is from about 20 Hz to 20k Hz. As we age, our hearing falls off pretty rapidly until most forum members would be lucky to be able to hear a 8k Hz tone. Women excepted as their hearing does not fail as rapidly as men.

Our low end, meaning bass, remains good but the nice transparent highs are mostly lost. A good equalizer can boost the high end so we get some of it back. Even then, I'll put my $$ on a good 12V head unit into a Mac running hear and then into a good amp and from there into  Monsoon MM2000 speakers.

Mike Leary in Ajo is the forum's sound king but I've spent a lot of time in orchestras, R&B bands as well as my own Big Band and run a $300,000 sound system (not mine) for my wife's Reader's Theater all the time.

Hey, if the coach came with a home type receiver, don't reinvent the wheel. Just saying for people who may want to upgrade what they have.

For anyone who may think their hearing is still great. head down to Costco for a free hearing test with the results for each ear on a nice graph.

Getting back to the question, unless TX has unlimited money all he wants is a replacement receiver,if he has no MacBook he has to buy one,if we can't hear the sounds like we used to then we don't need a top of the line system.Maybe he does'nt run the receiver
while driving so 12 volt or 110 is a moot point,a top of the line receiver like a Pioneer SC-09,will sound pretty dang good if you can find the money and room for it.

I can still remember old tube radios on AM listening to "The Green Hornet" and then the big deal it was not to have to wait for the car radio to warm up when the transistor was inverted. FM stations only played classical music. Then transistor radios with batteries and you were a big deal in high school if you had one.

My did refused to buy a car with a heater. Was afraid he would fall asleep if the car was warm. Not very popular with us. Windshield wipers hissed from the vacuum hose.

If you buy any car/coach stereo, head unit or all in one, make sure it has HD FM. You can hear the difference.

Just put the top of the line Alpine single din in the 380sl,HD does sound better,replaced the front 4" speakers, looking for a good set for the back but limited room.

About four years ago replaced electronics with Yamaha AV receivers overhead drivers seat and in an overhead bedroom cabinet.  Can't remember the model number but I'll be going to the coach in a couple of days so if interested I can take pictures.

I bought a Yamaha A/V receiver a year ago to install in the coach and replace the Bose system.
What kind of speakers have you found that are small but still deliver great sound?

I have the surround sound I am happy with.  Just looking to replace the home theater receiver.  My bigger goal is to also replace the overhead front tv with a larger smart tv.  May need to alter the framing around it.

I'm looking for conventional type, book shelf sized speakers. A sub woofer I can hide most anywhere.

Check Ebay for Definitive Technology used speakers, just looked lots of good ones there.
