The 87 ORED has 10R22.5 tires. They are uncommon. Was that OEM spec?

I searched the forums for 10R22.5 and got nothing.

The 87 ORED currently has 10R22.5s on the rears.

Is that the original? Seems like I have to order those online...

I'm wondering if I can choose a more common tire size / hoping the original was something else :P

250 cats had 9r's the 300 cat had 10r's

As there are 25mm to the inch the metric may be 255's?

There should be a metal plate on the wall next to the driver seat.

That plate will list the VIN, Model Number, Build Date, GAWR (front & rear), plus the OEM tire and wheel size.

I would fit 275/80/22.5  all around .  LRG. The ORED will be sub 10000 on the nose. The LR G will allow a little more air pressure and roll easier, steer better.

I made the mistake of fitting 295/75  and LRH.  Heavier tire by 18# each, slows the bus down and requires very little air , Like 74# steer. According to the charts. Another 2 years and I'll retire!!
My tire plate says 9R

Good grief-- 9R22.5 to 295/75R22.s is a BIG jump.  What rims do you have???  Most 9R's are on 6.75" rims.

Beamalarm agrees with Mike.  It does not list a 1987 ORED, but does list a ORED for 85, 86 and 88.  All three show 9R22.5 OEM tire size.

Brett,
When I first got this bus.
I inquired here about tire sizes and took the suggestion to fit the common 295/75 tires.  Now That know more about these things, I will go back to the smaller tires.  I may look at shorter tires also.
I like the overall gear as it is tho.
Pretty sure my rims are 7, 1/4.

I had the '87 ORED with T3208 engine. Standard tires were 10X22.5 TRUCK tires. Also used on 53' trailers.

Current owner has put 295/75R22.5 on fronts.

If I went 275/80 all around, that would be cool. It's cheaper by far but I don't know what I'm looking at.  Honestly not sure what to do. If fronts are 295/75 can I GO 275/80 on rears?  They look pretty damn close.

What size are your rims?  The width is stamped on them.  Brett mentioned this here.  You can only fit what tires are able to fit your rims SAFELY

Yes, rim size is stamped on the rim.  Look at the back outer wheel where it will be obvious.

Likely also on GVWR plaque.

My guess is either 6.75" or 7.5"

I think I will just go OEM as on placard after all 10R22.5. Seems simplest, as I will be having a lot of issues to work on.

The placard says REAR 17500 WITH 10R22.5 TIRES 22.5x7.5 RIMS.

Most tires I see have a dual rating of ~5000-5500 lbs. So 4x = 20,000. Seems somewhat close to that spec number but, sound right?

Looks to be about $1,500 shipped for 4, on average of various tires.. cooper, dynatrac, kumho. Toyo's are my go to brand in general -- I'll probably go for this Amazon.com: TOYO M170 Radial Tire - 10R22.5 141L: Automotive M170

275/80R22.5 and 297/75R22.5 are VERY close to the same revolutions per mile as the 10 R.

7.5" rim is the narrowest rim for the 275 and 8.25 for most manufacturer's 295's.

SO, be sure to verify that your rims are correct for your choice.  Would hate for you to buy ones that are not designed for your wheels.

OH! Thank you for this. I need to make sure the rims haven't been replaced since OEM! I read you loud and clear now... Assuming they are (once I see the rim), I will just grab the exact spec :P

In other words 295's are not normally speced for 7.5" rims

Bob,

I haven't shopped for 295/79R22.5's.  But if you do, each tire manufacturer's specs identifies either the only or several wheel sizes (widths) that meet their specs.

If you are shopping and find a 295/75R22.5 whose manufacturer says 7.5" rims are OK, please let us know.
