That is the right Pro-Link 9000 reader but for most here, the Mopar, Ford, etc cartridges won't do any good with a Detroit or Cummins. Naturally, it has to be an electronic engine. All 2 cycle Detroits in Foretravels are electronic and use the DDEC II ECU. While the domestic cartridges are only worth about $5, the diesel cartridges are lots more.

The Pro-Link 9000 is sold under several names, Kent-Moore, MPSI, Detroit, Nexis and finally Snap-On, who owns Pro-Link now but does not support the legacy readers. Not even friendly about it.

For a Detroit 2 cycle,  you need a cartridge that says DDEC I & II or a  DDEC II & III. They slide into place and away you go if you have the right connectors. Easy to buy the right ones.

Answering another question, at sea level, the PL should read about 22 psi boost max.

Chip7,

Members have purchased the reader with the Detroit cartridge for under $100. I have two and paid about $125 and $185. They made cartridges for Cummins, CAT, Meritor ABS and Allison but these are harder to find. Most of the readers with Detroit cartridges on Ebay are way overpriced.

I do have the manual for it. It may not be included in the package and it usually sells for about $40 on Ebay. Forum member Jerry Mattux may print out one in his print shop. He did for me.

But, here is a good site to either read and understand test codes from under the dash top or what the Pro-Link 9000 will do and how to use it. From the page I have linked to, you can go up to the top right on the page and click on the yellow page numbers and the user manual can be copied or saved from there. MPSI READER MENU SELECTIONS  For Mac users, the Pro-Link is a little PC like and not that intuitive so you will need to read the manual.

Nice to have both the Pro-Link and the Bluefire. While the Pro-Link is a great tool, it only displays two lines of data so you can see it's not what you want to be looking at while driving. The Bluefire is nice as it can replace your instrument panel with commonly available tablets and will not need any wires except to keep it charged.

While we are almost all Mac, the Bluefire will work nicely with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. It comes with the OS 7 that is required by Bluefire. The tablet is in the Tab S lineup and probably the best tablet on the market. I purchased a used but mint condition Tab S2 for about $110 so a bargain, They are fast, have a great GPS receiver, take a SD card, have a AMOLED screen like the latest 4K TVs, etc.

OK. Finally, between fires, smoke and heat, got out to the rig and hooked up the Bluefire. The goal was to find out what the rig is reporting to the Bluefire so I can set the dashboard up. Adapter from OBD adapters connected perfectly and the Bluefire hooked up to it as planned. Fired up the rig and here is whats coming over.
RPM
Intake Temp
Road Speed
Turbo Boost
Engine load
Oil Pressure
Barometer
Accelerator
Battery
Coolant Level
Coolant Temp
Set Speed
Cruise Active
Cruise On
Fuel Rate
Fuel Gauge
Instant Fuel Use
Fuel Used
Fuel Level
Engine Hours.
It had a couple of other things that it showed intermittently need to figure that part out.
Torque Lockup
Brake Pressure

Keep in mind this was done parked and not road tested so I am hoping there is more, particularly as it pertains to the transmission. Since it showed Torque Lockup maybe once I am in motion I might see some other info.
Not as much as I hoped for, however for a 30 year old rig, not bad. I'm hoping the transmission data comes to life upon movement, really looking for that info. Going to set up the dashboard up then road test it. Will let you know how it comes out.

Running: It is a J1708 ALDL Male to 6-pin male adapter from OBD Diagnostics Inc. 310-793-2410. I have attached a picture of my female plug. Make sure yours is square like mine, it does not have bevel edges. Be careful on that site. Lot's of cool stuff on there that was mighty tempting. Almost talked myself into a 400 horsepower upgrade chip. Just kidding! The factory setup works for me and I am  looking for reliability not speed.

Bruce: Wanted to go with the Silverleaf, heard so many good things about it, unfortunately Roger said that the system would not work with a unit that old. This was a couple of years ago so that may have changed.
