Please help me identify tube from left side of engine to compressor

There is a metal tube running from the left side of the engine to the compressor.  It visually has significant external corrosion.

What is it, (so I can source a replacement) and what could cause the corrosion?

You might consider soaking the tube with Ospho rust killer.  When that dries, scrub with 80 grit sand paper and re-apply some more Ospho.  When that dries, then a little black paint.

Sorry, I do not know the purpose of the  tube.

I think that is a compressor cooling tube.

I don't think it's exactly a cooling tube. I think supply tube would be a better name. The inlet for it should be after the turbo and provides clean positive airflow to the compressor.

Edit: Due to oldguy knowing what he was talking about disregard this post.

Looks like the "corrosion" was caused by 23 years of paint wearing off and rust forming,if you have the time and willpower you can clean the engine and treat the rust spots and repaint it can look like new.

Isn't the compressor cooled by engine water.

That document contains a wealth of info.  I will print it and keep it as a ready reference.

The line I am referring to is shown on both the pictures and seems like it is the air compressor coolant supply line referred to on page 8-31 like Ken and Oldguy stated.  I will attempt to clean it up like Rudy and John suggested, but be prepared to replace if it appears it is too thin.

If you have issues and need hard copy, just print out hose pages that are needed.

My 2003 U295 has an input and return coolant lines that look like yours.

The run from the compressor to fittings on side of engine block.

I just replaced the inlet tube due to a hole that was caused by contact with spacer between the two lines.
$100+ a little for replacement line.
