Someone mentioned, the "Sq O rings" outside the engine,, a sq o ring is a wonderful item if U like to change them often.
The problem is compression set, the only reason u need a O ring or similar is thermal expansion. The "static" parts move around for a variety of reasons.
A Sq cut, as we called it a Lathe , Cut is a ring whacked of from a extrusion, [rubber] before or after Curing. It's big problem it has not been compression molded, [think forged vs cast]. A compression molded O ring is the somewhat same, it is put into a mold, squeezed & Under temperature /pressure & often Vacuum. Until cured.
For us the basic benefit, that gives better compression set resistance.
Compression set is when U take it out, its flat on 2 sides [maybe 1] but still looks pretty good,
Not the scope to go further, my opinion a used O ring, with no visible defects exceeds the ability of a new SQ cut. Given both are the same "rubber". Rubber is a another story..
