Check engine light/ with air buzzer sounding

Hi all,

Unfortunately, I find myself needing some more help. I fired up "Nellie" today. It did take a bit longer to start but not by much since it had been sitting. Once started, it did hiccup a bit meaning nearly died, with a little fuel it started running fine.  I then was waiting for the air buzzer to stop as it was building up I noticed the check engine light was on.  I waited thinking the buzzer would stop and it did not. The air did build up.

Any insight would be great! At least I found this problem a full week before planning on leaving for a trip.

Possible air governor, or air dryer problem

Ok.

I have recently replaced the dryer but have taken a trip since with no issue.  Do you have any thoughts of what I should look at or check?

What codes came up or have  you checked the history yet? Might disconnect the ground cable on the start batteries for several minutes, reconnect and try again. Did the pressure build to normal pressure while the buzzer was on?  Lots of reasons for "check engine" light. Low voltage, fuel pressure, coolant level, etc.

Thank you! I will try to disconnect and reattempt the start.  The air pressure did get to normal values.  I do not have anything I can read the code with for this vehicle.

Any guessing is irrelevant without codes.  Look at the inside-of-the-dash momentary switches to help show the codes or get VMSpc to read the actual Cummins codes.

That said, given you mentioned it took longer to start than usual, that will sometimes mean low voltage/low engine speed and once the chassis batteries are fully charged (or you use the boost switch to charge), and you restart, you won't have a CEL.

Actually, you do.  The coach has switches to help do this

switches behind instrument panel????

Lucky me, my bus is just outside.

I went outside and found the switches you mentioned, never seen before. When I hit the top switch, with key on, the check engine light and the stop engine light illuminated with the buzzer on. The lower switch caused the ABS light to blink once and then 7 times.

I then started the bus again and no buzzer and the air was around 80lbs. It fired up and ran nicely with NO engine light this time.

Maybe a flux, I am not sure! Time to get with Roger and start monitoring my bus closer I guess.

Nice have an electronic reader so you can just read out the fault codes.
