Re: Fan resistors 91 u300 Reply #3 – December 04, 2020, 11:08:40 am Ken, I assume you mean the dash HVAC.To answer your question, I think the resistors are in the fan cowling such that the air flow keeps them cool. I think access is from below the dash (passengers side). You would need to remove carpet and then a plywood panel(s).But I have another suggestion that is easier to check first. There is a Foretravel installed relay that is only energized when the fan is on high. I had an issue where only "high" would run intermittently; replacing this relay fixed it. I'm guessing the NC (normally closed) contact feeds the lower speeds and this contact in the relay might be bad. Here's my suggestion for checking:1. Lift the top dash cover up2. On passengers side find the red wire that feeds the fan motor and pull it off (it's a spade connector). This only so you can hear the relay clicking.3. Turn on the ignition and switch the control back and forth between "high" and "medium"4. You should hear and feel with you finger the click of a relay when switching between the two.Just because it clicks doesn't mean it's not bad. The contacts inside can create too high a resistance. There a lot of these relays - almost all are fastened with a screw. Here's photo of where it is on mine and it seems to be the one that is not screwed down. It's straight back from the ignition switch. I don't know if it's OEM or I just didn't screw it back down when I replaced mine but I don't see where it could have been screwed down given the short length of wire to work with.I don't know if you are familiar with these relays but any auto store will have them and they are connectorized so they are easy to change out. Re: Fan resistors 91 u300 Reply #4 – December 04, 2020, 12:15:29 pm Thanks John, Never thought about checking voltage at wire when operating switch. Like relays screwed to wall but several scattered out under bunch wire. Cannot feel anything when turning on to high so as said will unplug each one to see.Ken Quote Selected
