Waste tank valve handles

I have a leaking black tank valve that I need to replace.  Unfortunately, the tank valve handles extend through openings in the lower panel of the utility bay.  In order to remove that panel, the valve handles need to be removed.  Since it appears that both valves have extensions on them, does anyone know if those handles are screwed on to the extensions?  Also, are the extensions threaded on to the standard valve stem?

I just replaced both black & grey tank valves. You remove the top panel, need to remove the water faucet (unscrews from the back of the panel), label all wires.  The bottom panel unscrews and you can move it up out of the way.  I replaced the valve but re-used the cable, it attaches to the new valve.  I unscrewed the 4 bolts on the valves and then pulled out the entire front assembly. 
FOT had a great price on a new valve.
If you don't have the third valve that's the time to add it.

I think you have to take apart enough to get to the set screws that hold the cables to the valve itself and loosen the top part of the plastic assembly to release the outer cable cover.

But replacement handles are threaded so the old might screw ott.

You can get new replacement remote cable valves

And new cables and new oring seals.

If you are going to the trouble and effort, put in new valves and the third valve if you can.

Get a shallow aluminum sheet cake pan or something similar to put under the valves to catch any leaks.

Thanks for the quick responses.  Unfortunately, I don't think my valve setup is the same as what has been described.  I don't have cable valves.  They appear to be standard valves with extensions screwed on.  See pictures.

The pictures really help.  Yes, your set-up is definitely different than my '99 U-320.  It appears that the plumbing has been modified by a previous owner. 

Unfortunately you are likely on your own in figuring out how to proceed.  Good luck.

Thanks for all the help.  Took a bit more effort than YouTube videos would suggest but I got it done. The valves were standard Valterra valves with solid extensions.  I'll give it a couple of days to watch for leaks and then I'll button everything up.  Thanks again.

Put a piece of kitchen towel Under the joint, sometimes easier to spot a tiny leak on the paper
