King Controls KC 2600 Problem............and Solution

I recently had my Throttle go out on a trip away from home.  To get home I tied a piece of 50' half inch flat webbing to the throttle linkage on the fuel pump, up and out over the bedframe box ( lay your broom between the bed and frame, allowing a nice round edge for the strap to make the 90 degree turn ) , then up to the driver seat.  I could pull on the web to operate the throttle, but this was not too safe and difficult to steer.  I tied the webbing to the steering column fairly taunt but with just enough slack to run outside of my right leg shin.  To throttle, I would lean my Right leg to the right.  This allowed me to steer with both hands, and also let off the throttle automatically when you went for the brake with your right foot.  I did drive TEN hours with this set up home, but I was limited to 60mph as the Allison Transmission did not know the throttle position with the KC system not working, so it would not shift correctly/smoothly and could never go into 6th gear.

Once home, I diagnosed my KC system with the help of Cruise King's website and information Semi Truck, Bus, RV, Service Vehicle Cruise Control Installation  .    Turns out I had a bad control board, which is no longer available or supported.  With all the problems these 23 year old systems seem to be having ( based on Foretravel, Monaco, and Custom Coach bulletin boards), I decided to replace mine.  Not a lot of options out there.  One Monaco owner had a Pneumatic Pedal, TPS sensor and air actuator put in ( about $1300 in parts) installed at a shop in DFW area.  I looked into this and the shop wanted about $10,000 to install).

I decided to install a hydraulic system myself.    This has the advantage of better throttle response ( no compression of the fluid, which you have in an pneumatic throttle system, especially with the long throttle line) and it does not need to be connected to the coach's air supply.

I installed a hydraulic actuated throttle pedal, a small hydraulic reservoir under the dash, 60' of hydraulic line back to the engine bay and I fabricated a custom mounting bracket for the engine bay to which the hydraulic slave cylinder and TPS sensor were mounted.  The TPS is then electrically connected to the Allison ECU wiring harness.  The custom bracket also has provisions for a future cruise control mounting if/when I add that ( an aftermarket system should run about 800 dollars)

The above parts can be purchased for approximately $1500, excluding the cruise.  I could supply the mounting brackets to anyone that wants this upgrade and I may also be able to do the install for anyone in either the Houston area or Pensacola Florida area.  Install would run about 800.

The Hydraulic system works every bit as well as the electronic throttle.  Its very responsive with no lag and the TPS is helping the Allison to shift correctly.

If you have a KC throttle/cruise system, I would STRONGLY recommend keeping a 50' length of paracord or flat webbing aboard ( flat webbing is much easier on the leg and bedframe weatherstripping) for emergency use.

Our previous coach had the KC setup.  This is big news.  People out there have gone through a lot of headache and expense on this issue.

A person contacted me about our wrecked Monaco, intending to trace its movement and buy the KC from it.

Good evening Steve, I know it has been two years sense your post but am have the same issue.
My KC-2600 has stop working and it appears there are no options to replace it until I found your post.
Are you still able to make the bracket and supply parts?
Thank you
Josh Hines.
