Water Pump Latching Relay with Built-in Timer

I posted this idea elsewhere and am putting this here to make it more easily found with Search functions.

I used a Gaeyaele latching relay with timing functions built in.  This is more than just a latching relay, it has 9 other controllable functions as well.

GAEYAELE 1PCS GRT8-M 16A Multifunction Time Relay with 10 Function Choices...

The OEM latching relay uses a connection to ground to latch or release.  This device uses a +12 volt trigger. adding a common Bosch automotive relay lets the existing pump momentary switch trigger the relay with +12v.

I tested the timer settings using the "E" function. Using this function pressing the pump switch latches the relay and starts the timer.  When the timer expires the latch releases.  If you press the pump switch again while latched and before the timer expires it starts the timer over.  The latching relay only releases when the time runs out.  If you use this method then an accessible switch in the pump power located in the in the wet bay would be a good backup plan to disable the pump.  I already have this as part of our winterizing process.

Using the "I" function the relay behaves like a basic latching relay.  Pressing the pump switch changes the latch state.  If you press the pump switch while the latch is released and the relay latches. Press the pump switch while the relay is latched and it is released.

Seems to work well. the OEM relay lasted 20 years, maybe this one will too.

Do it to protect your coach.

Gimmick?  Only if you want to think it is.

How, where did you mount this Rodger? I don't see any screw holes for mounting. Looks like it's designed for a circuit panel maybe?

These (as are the OEM latching relays in our coach) are designed to be mounted on a DIN rail.  Common in electronic control and data acquisition assemblies.  The two in the basement as stuck together with a sturdy double stick foam tape and then those are stuck to the 12v panel behind the white fiberglass cover in the basement.  The relay is nearby attached to the panel with a screw.

The one in the BR/Bath is attached to the inside cabinet wall with a plastic strap.

You could get some DIN rail and make a right angle mount for them.

Just about anything you can imagine is available for DIN rail mounting

Roger  ----  The only thing that my latching relay operates is the water pump, guess that is the reason for my questions.  It all works well and is safe as far as I know.  ----  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

Leave the pump on, forget to turn it off, leave the coach, water leak, pumps 100 gal or so into your coach.  Timer? Gimmick?  Fail safe!  Do what you want. Just a suggestion.

John, if your latching relay works the you can add a simple timer to do the same thing.
