If you end up needing to leave the bay door open while dumping, I wouldn't worry about it.  That's the way ours works - I can't completely close the door with the dump hose attached.  I just open the door, hook up the hose, dump, remove/stow the hose, close the door.  Simple!

I know some full timers, when they park in one spot for a long time, like to leave the dump hose strung out and semi-permanently attached to the dump valve and the sewer pipe.  In that situation, you could just unhook the hose from the dump valve and put a cap on it.  Leave the rest of the hose strung out and connected to the sewer pipe.  That way you could close and lock your bay door for security.

Leaving the bay door open or partly open when I dump is not a problem. I do that anyway because of the shore line. I'm not as spy as I once was and going through contortions to hook up to the existing plumbing is getting old.

I concur with reply 20 and after using the Thetford to Valterra twist on adapter a season, it leaks, I cut off the thetford fitting, glued on the adapter for valterra and finally have a system that works for me.

I have a clear straight fitting with a valve and clean out connection that can be directed into tank or down waste hose. With the valve shut you can get a more effective back flush of tank. Partially fill tank and then open valve. Amazing what is still left behind. My coach often was too low for 90 degree out of coach to work well. A floject would have to be supported some way to my thinking and that support would need to be adjustable.

It took me longer to order the parts than install it. Good luck. We almost all find a way to convert to Valterra because you can resupplied at Walmart and most RV parks. Good luck finding Thetford equipment on the road.

I can only assume that the Thetford dump hose system was more popular or more prevalent at the time the coaches were built.

Chuck,

I was told that the reason that FT chose Thetford for there fittings was they were more robust than others.  Now whether this is true or not who knows.

Again, thank you to all those who replied to this post.
I can take out the whole exit pipe assembly by taking off 4 nuts on each of the Valtera valves and pulling the outside flange.
At that point, as long as I'm in there, I can replace either or both valves and then either modify the existing pipes or install new ones, along with a 3rd valve before putting it back on.
I'm not in a big hurry but it's nice to know all my options. It appears that Lowes has just about everything I need.
