Smoke alarm installation

I want to install smoke and CO alarms in the bedroom of my '98 U295. Is it safe to drill 5/8 to 3/4" through the carpeted ceiling for the install screws, without puncturing the roof (or anything else important?)

No sweat. You've got depth to spare. Just need to be careful you don't drill into a wire. Here's a photo of the roof layers.

Just use a piece of the heavy duty sticky back Velcro on the back of the detectors.  No Screws needed.  It sticks to the carpet really well.
