After replacing the front old konis with new ones then driving on the road from Salome to I-10 in Arizona I noticed an immediate improvement a major improvement porpoising was gone. The ride was much better also when I was on I-10 I didn't feel the bumps as much. Now that I have all eight shocks installed it'll be interesting riding back in April to see what the rears do. I personally would not leave old shocks on and put some new ones on. The new ones will fail sooner because if the old shocks are not good the new ones are going to be taken a lot of that load and you're going to have two different types of shocks fighting each other I think. Better to just bite the bullet and replace them all. Or keep the ones you have and adjust them. But I wouldn't mix them that's just me but your mileage may vary. Do what makes you happy.

Not knocking you but how do you know the old Koni's are good?Wonder what Koni's opionion would be,I think the new ones will wear out faster if the old ones are not the same as far as dampening goes.My opionion is,if the coach runs ok with 4 it will run
better with 8.What are you lubing the nuts and bolts?

John

They are not leaking. so by laying the shock on the bench, and feeling them as I pull and push them, is how I will test them. As long as they feel close to the same as the new one's I will be fine with that. They don't appear to be that old.

They have a lifetime warranty, so they must be pretty good. If I have any doubts, I will order 2 more. They are 1 day away, coach is in my shop.

The mounting bolts tend to wear, the sleeve in the rubber is stainless I believe, at least really hard. I have gone through a rear one rattling, and knocking, so I pulled the bolt, as it was worn.So I replaced with #8 new bolt. So if any look bad, going to replace. Other wise wire wheel and lube them up, put them back. BTW, the bolt is only close to shock hole, it's close, but not machined tight.

If you want to pop for 8 new Konis for me, I would love it. :D  It's a 24 yr old coach. I have my limits on what I want to keep spending on it. It's pretty darn good, so just trying to get the most for the least out of it.

Old 2 koni shocks are not that old......They are not adjustable, they are Koni's, FDS gold ones.

If I have any question of their condition, I will replace them. But at $160.00 each, not really into throwing good parts away.

Quite frankly, the airbags are really not that bad. I may not replace back ones. I carry a spare and all the extra parts anyway

I have owned a ton of motorhomes and cars, replacing shocks has never made that much difference (sometimes I think it's just imagination, or wishful thinking), unless they are leaking, or really worn out (read 200K miles)

But I do hope I gain the improvement you recieved.

Thanks for your input

                                                               UPDATE

So I pulled one of the front Koni's off, and tested it on the bench comparing with a new one.. They are as good as new. They appear to have build dates. So with that said, date on shock, equaling amount of miles figured, they have maybe 15K miles on them.

I will say, the bolts looked like new, they fit about the same, and are tight on both brand shocks (pulled a bolt off one of the Bilsteins). So forget what I said previously about bolts. I'am going to say the one I had trouble with in the rear, probably got loose and wore the bolt out.

Still going to pull bolts on other side, clean and lube them. You can see in the picture why.

Cheers

Like Chris said, Ultra is out of stock on the 8805-1010s. I emailed them and they advised me that they hoped to have more available at the end of April. I had ordered four which were delivered in two days. I decided to do all eight so I ordered four more from Shock Warehouse @ $167.57 with free shipping.

As in a side note I drove for the first time with all eight of my shocks replaced in Mexico over topaes, which for those that you don't know are gigantic speed bumps designed to rip the undercarriage out of a regular car, and the ride was really nice. So if you think your ride is not good right now and you're wondering if whether you should upgrade to koni fsds after 20 years I would say yes it worked for me.

Unless his shocks were recently replaced, they are likely to be "last generation" shocks, not FSD's.  FSD's are better.

I see this post is about 7-9 months old, so I am hopping to get an update from few of you. How is it so far? I am thinking about replacing my 18 years old (2003 GV 295) Bilstein shocks with Koni FSD.
I think "8805 1010 Koni Gold FSD RV Shock" Is the correct part number, but I am not 100% sure. I will look and get some data from the Bilsteins to make sure. Should I order from shockwarehouse.com ?
I am about to replace 2 airbags in the front passenger side and I have the Harbor Freight 12" spacers; I do have a bit of chalange to get to the 1 bolt on each airbag but the bolts for the shocks appears to be easier access.  Any tips or tricks?
Thank you,
Al

Scott,
What is the second from the right and one in the middle top square looking (white) tool? One in the middle bottom, is that 1-1/8 size? If you already wrote about this, please send me link. I looked at some of your posts but could not find it. I need to copycat  :)  your tools. Thank you, Al

Can someone confirm that Koni 8805-1010 shocks will fit my 01 U320 40' with a solid axle? I'm 99% sure the answer is yes but want confirmation before I pull the trigger.

I believe the correct Koni  shock is  FSD 8805-1010      not FDS.
