Sanitizing Fresh Water Tank

So my little flow through bleach canister came in the mail recently. Today I'm going to try to sanitize the fresh water tank.  Couple questions:

1. Do I need to bypass the water heater or just make sure it's turned off?
2. I have about a half tank on board, my plan is just to add bleach water using the mixer until I get water out the overflow. Then let it sit for a couple hours, then drive to a dump station.

How long has the existing water sat in the tank?  Personally I would dump all the water and refill the entire tank.

You said you are going somewhere to dump the tank after sitting.  Why don't you just dump in the street?  and then refill and dump again?

The water heater needs to be sanitized as well. 

After you put the bleach in your tank, be sure to run all your faucets to sanitize the pipes from tank to faucets include washer and shower.

It's stored in a hangar and the "wardens" of the airport wouldn't like me dumping even fresh water there. They're very persnickety, but the bus has a beautiful home 😉.

Rick, I made one out of 2" PVC about 1' long put a shut off on one end with hose male hose connect to hook to coach water then put a female hose connect on other end with shut off to hook to water hose. Turn valve off--fill with bleach hook to hoes turn water on you are good to go!

Sanitizing Water, Particulate Filter

You might want to consider using a particulate filter like the one I use. It comes from from DripWorks Drip Irrigation - Amiad Tagline Filters — DripWorks.com  - FAMCP34.  It is an 80 micron (0.003 inches) filter.  The valve at the bottom opens up so that fresh water will flush the filter to clean it.  The filter section unscrews so you can add a disinfectant which then sanitizes everything downstream. The particulate filter comes with standard 3/4" pipe fittings,  They sell all of the various hose adapters as well. It is less than $20 and prevents incoming crud from getting to everything in your water system.  I use ours all the time, keeps the junk out and there is a lot of it out there.
