step and step cover air regulator stuck - unable to unlock and turn

Is there any careful way to unstick an air regulator adjustment knob?  I'm unable to pull the knob from the lock position by hand and don't want to use a pliers without knowing how much pressure to use to prevent an order for a new one.  There isn't an air leak, I'm just trying to adjust the pressure so slow down the step cover movement.

Will probably brake the plastic and they can be still be adjusted with a crescent wrench or you could close down the exhaust
ports to slow it down. The is a jam nut and a screwdriver slot.

Larry,

Don't know where you are located, but if it breaks you can buy a new pressure regulator at Lowes or Home Depot or Harbor Freight or most any store that sells air tool compressors and supplies.
There's nothing special about the regulators on our coaches.

Photo below shows a typical Norgren valve and the exhaust ports oldguy mentioned (above).  Turn the screws in or out to adjust action.  May take trial and error to pick the right screw and get the correct setting.

Loews, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Ace Hardware all know me by my first name.

If both the regulator and the valve exhaust ports can be adjusted which is better?  Or is it really just experimenting?

I preferred the exhaust ports as the same pressure will push the ram harder than retracting due to square area of the piston.
