Generator Thermostat

I did an archive search and could not find my answer. I need a new thermostat for my Power Tech
generator. It has the Isuzu three cylinder 3LD-1 engine. The local auto parts houses were at a loss without a car model to check.

Along those lines, does anyone have a year, make and model of vehicle that used this engine?

Thanks

John,

Actually, I do not know for sure that it is bad,  I am just throwing parts at a problem.  My generator shut down due to overheat.  Coolant was being expelled out the overflow/expansion bottle.  There were no other leaks in the coolant system.  I checked and the cooling fan capacitor seemed to check out good but for under twenty bucks, I replaced it anyway.  The water pump belt appears to be good but at 22 years old, I plan to replace it as well.

In my mind that left either the spring in the radiator cap being weak allowing coolant to escape or a stuck thermostat overheating the coolant and forcing it out past an otherwise properly functioning radiator cap.  I replaced the 22 year old radiator cap so I will see if the problem recurs.  If it does, I would have to believe the problem is the thermostat.  Either way, I plan to replace the 22 year old thermostat.

Can you look at the radiator to make sure insulation is not blocking air flow, some have had that problem.

Richard,

Have you opened the pet cocks in the head to vent the air from behind the thermostat?
