2001 U320 3610 microphor toilet mod to Dometic 320

2001 U320 3610 microphor toilet has finally moved its priority to the top of the list. I ordered a dometic 321 white assembly and will start the change before we take off for three weeks on the 23. If I don't Murphy will have my butt. Also ordered both a 45 degree flange and a 2" offset flange to help. We'll build a platform to accommodate the needed offset. New toilet height is 13.5 inches tall and will hopefully keep below 18 inches tall with platform. Current backset for flange is 8" and the 321 is 11" so i will need about 3" adjustment for backset.

Well to my surprise I have been lead astray in regards to what will fit in my coach. Yes it is a 8 inch backseat to drop but you can easily remove the flange and down tube approx eight inches long. Just a rubber push fitting going into top of tank. Put two 45 deg elbows or possibly two 22.5 degrees elbows below floor and above tank. Install standard toilet flange at 11" for standard 320. Will be able to accommodate nicely. Good finding!

Did you have to build a platform box?
Or did you cut out floor to accommodate the angle flanges ?
I'm not following your installation, and will, one day want to change to a higher commode, that isn't electric and has unobtainable replacement parts, and leaks past the seal.......not a fan

So originally understood I would have to build a box to accommodate the offset. This was wrong. I removed the toilet flange and drop tube by lifting by hand and rotating to release from rubber seal in tank. Will drill new hole to offset three inches kinda towards in side and I think towards the sink kinda equally. I should wait to have new 320 in hand but probably won't. Thinking I will take the cut out piece of floor and relocate to the backside of the hole and scotch weld back in place. There looks to be 2" of insulation on the back side. Part of the removed section will be in the tile a little bit. I have a diamond saw for my 3.5" grinder to address that area. Will be covered by new toilet. Repaired floor behind toilet may be exposed? Will know once toilet is in place. Another issue is the old toilet has a cutout in the wall behind the toilet and this will have to be addressed. Will probably cut a cover sheet of stainless for a temporary patch. Make a cover/door in walnut down the road.

If you drill a new hole three inches forward and three inches towards the shower??....do you patch the existing hole?
Take lots of pictures.
Sven and I have the same layout and need ? to change out the commode.
I'm sure there are others interested in what you are attempting to do. I thought of an offset, but also thought I had to build a platform box to work with it. If I understand you, you will be reusing the floor cutout and tile ?

Is that offset easy to find? Big Box or special order? Please let me know
Also, any difficulties going into original opening in the top of the tank?
Did you reuse the original piece, or did you modify? Is it just a " push in " fitting, into the tank?
This mod allows us to install ANY replacement commode. Great. Thanks

Well still working out some of the problems. The 2" offset is short by about 1/2 inch. I have the 45 degree flange coming tomorrow to try it. There is a box tubing structure going across the coach that is in the way. Would not recommend cutting it to clear. I've got the offset to clear but as you can see in the last photo I had to migrate the hole forward to just clear the tube. So still working out the issues, but will work. Another solution would to put the entire toilet on a 1/2 plate to raise the base. 1/2 would accommodate drop needs I think. Could cut to match the toilet base and wouldn't look noticeable IMO. Hoping that will not be necessary but still a option. Would mount flange on top of plate. I removed the old flange and tube out of the waist tank. It is sealed in with a rubber bushing. Takes some effort to start it moving. I ended up rotating it back and forth till free. Not reusing flange. Am reusing bushing. The 45 degree flange and a additional 45 elbow will allow me to exactly offset as needed. Won't know if I'll use a standard elbow or a street elbow. Another possible option would be to heat the flange down section and relax it to clear the tubing, but prefer to use unmodified if possible. Toilet shows up on Saturday. I still prefer this over using a short toilet with a riser box to accommodate offset.

Scott, when you get the tube into the tank flange put a 4" screw clamp around it.  I didn't the first time when I replaces the commode.  When I pulled the cover back in the summer for other issues I found seep leak around where the tube goes through the tank flange.  Probably not a problem if you drain before moving but we  can't always do that

Tank flange is a soft old rubber bushing. I doubt it would support a hole and screw. I will guarantee  its long enough not to be removable once screwed down. Good point thanks

Spoke with Chris today and decided will add support clamp around rubber flange to help secure against movement. Better safe than sorry.

So as the saga continues, Amazon delivery postponed till Wednesday from a Sunday delivery. I looked up how to bend ABS online and said to use boiling water. First attempt was using Natural gas source in failure. Last night fired up the propane and within 30 minutes to rolling boil and after fifteen minutes attempted to bend still to solid to manipulate. Dumped the water and went to direct flame. Blistered the first attempt. Second was able to move and cool in a acceptable position. Will install offset flange and offset tube tonight.

When I was a sailmaker (many years ago) this is the technique we used for cold bending stainless steel tubing for dodgers and awnings.

Yes saw that. Only needing one inch additional offset. My point was water was useless on abs IMO. Used sand on other projects but was happy with my results. If packed full of sand it would of never offset like it did with minimal distortion. Also cooling would been much slower. Fortunately everything is directly down hill. 2 inch offset flange certainly has the greatest restriction or diversion.

Has anyone replaced their toilet with an incinerator toilet? We are picking one up in Arkansas and having it installed when upon returning to AZ
 Our vacuflush toilet broke and the previous owners records show nothing but trouble and multiple repairs on it.

So made some progress today on toilet installation. Cut tile cover piece. Also made a 1/4 thick aluminum doubler plate to catch two of the three rear mount holes in flange. This was put under plywood. Was able to finally test fit 320 toilet. Quite happy so far. Will finish up tomorrow. Will remove all the other toilet electronics, valves, timers, etc.

Cut pipe to length in flange and cut another tile to fill gaps better. Test fit everything then painted and sealed everything applied antisieze to hardware and assembled  Still need to grout later today. Pipe hangs 1/2 inch lower that tank seal grommet. No possible way to migrate  above seal.

Grouted. Pulled all the old electronics out. Installed a 30" feed line to toilet. Installed toilet. Flush check okay. Curiously the water drops straight down with no swirl. Quite robustly. May rotate toilet counterclockwise a little to center between shower and vanity, but serviceable currently. Clean up and caulk base. Also will make a cover plate for behind were it was hacked out for other toilet, but not till we get back home from trip next week.
 What a feeling of accomplishment having that electronic toilet out of our life.
 I think the only item left on the list is the SLIDE. Not this week either.
