Aux Compressor Switch (inside)

I've been meaning to get around to this for a while and decided to tackle it while waiting on Aqua Hot parts. I enjoy the functionality of the HWH's auto-leveling but it inevitably kicks the compressor on at 2am every night so I wanted a way to shut it off from inside.

I went with a lighted switch that I could see from the bed incase I forgot to turn it off at night. I put it next to the other light switches below the bathroom sink.

The compressor has a 5 amp fuse on it and those switches are rated for 5 amps, but the wiring harness they come with had 20awg wire so I had to wire directly to the switch. I used 12 awg wire, which is enough for 5 amps at 12 meters or less and made it easier (and cheaper) than dealing with 10 awg. I had to run three wires to the switch: two to complete the positive side of the circuit and a ground for the light on the switch. Might have been able to tap into some of the other ground wires under the sink but wasn't sure if my compressor was grounded to chassis or not. Connecting the 12awg wire to the tiny terminals on the switch got a little janky but it'll work.

You'll notice that I basically just extended the wires from the existing switch on the compressor. This allows me to short circuit the new switch if I need to turn the compressor on from the outside. 99% of the time that switch will just remain off.

I wasn't super happy about having to drill through the wall in the bay area, I'd rather have just gone straight up out of the first bay but there just wasn't much room to work behind the kitchen pantry and I had other wires under the bathroom sink that I could follow as a guide.

Anyways, it's a simple mod but one I've wanted for quite a while. It beats the heck out of running outside in the cold at night because I forgot to turn it off before bed.

Or easier yet just turn off the level system after you are level

Spoken like someone with an air tight system lol. The whole point is that I want it in auto mode most of the time because it'll check it for level periodically and adjust if a corner leaked down.

No not that tight, after a couple of days if I've gone off level I start the big motor and relevel. I actually have a valve in the line from the 12v compressor to level tank that is closed.

Just remember that if the system is seeing low pressure the solenoid will still engage thinking it is running the compressor. This will draw power. Wasn't intended for extended continuous duty especially if in storage. Is powered off the hot battery bus for the storage batteries so salesman switch is not controlling it.

Elliott, leave the level system in manual mode (just one press of the Air button)  and level it yourself as needed.  Compressor runs only when you do.  It might run if you have an air leak that the pressure switch sees.  Put the compressor off switch in the control wiring rather than the power to the pump.  Pump power off does not turn off power to the water trap solenoid, it gets very hot.

In this drawing the switch in the line to the pressure switch stops the switch from energizing the pump and the solenoid valve.  The HWH signal from the control box will energize the pump and solenoid valve when you manually adjust the level the coach and the HWH control is in manual mode.

Are you saying I can turn the engine off and leave the HWH enabled and it will level itself? I know the air will be released when from the pressure outlets, but will the compressor come on if needed?

I do it manually as well, partly because that's all I know  :-)

Yes. Hit "level" twice on the HWH panel and it'll level itself. Every 30 minutes (I believe) it'll check if you're level and if not, it'll use the aux compressor to deliver air to the corner(s) that need it.

I think the button is labeled "Air".  Before you turn off the ignition off press the Air button once for manual control and twice for automatic control.  Then turn off the ignition.
