Need Replacement for GE Advantium Convection Microwave

It lasted 18 years. Power at the outlet is good, microwave totally dead except for a couple of intermittent zombie moments.  Due for replacement.

What's a good drop-in replacement?  This unit is no longer available.

Second question.      How do you get it down?


PS. If you know of a used but working Advantium that's for sale, please let me know.  I'll be ForeTraveling from Florida to Los Angeles in a couple of weeks and my route is flexible.

Ours in our Realm is a GE Advantium so you should be able to find a similar one still!

Also, if it's above the stove like ours we had to
take the trim above it off and easy enough to remove the screws holding it in. 

I will say it is HEAVY and although my hubs is pretty strong it was tough for him. Have a couple of back up plans of attack!
Oh and we know this because it was poorly installed and falling out! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Tom - I got lucky and just replaced mine this Spring but it took 5 months to get it!  Looks like it is out of stock again.  It is now made in China so it is not near as robustly made (metal is not as thick) as before but it does work fine.  To get it down you have to take apart the upper cabinets to get to the 4 screws that hold it up.  It is HEAVY and cumbersome to get it swung down from the back support on the wall and past the splash guard on the side.  I about busted a gut doing it myself - never again without a helper!

I bought a Sharp zero clearance door so it can open close to the wall. Convection and all; Lowes had the best price but I had to order it.

I bought a Samsung from Lowes --one modification-- electrical cord was on opposite side from original so drilled a hole in upper cabinet to run power cord.  As Oscar said it was a pain but doable

Tom, any standard convection microwave will fit, just decide on how much you are willing to spend.  The GE Advantium is still available, unless something has happened in the past few days.  HD and Lowe's carry this unit.  I, like Chris, installed a Samsung convection and have been very satisfied.  There are several ways to install these and it will depend on how the first one was put in.  Normally, two long bolts go down through the top of the cabinet above and screw into the unit.  The plate on the back has two points that the unit sits into, so you remove the bolts, tip the unit forward, balance the unit and then lift slightly off the back plate and you have the unit in your hands.  Normally, you will not have to remove the plate on the wall as they are the same.  Just to be sure, measure the gap between the slots in your unit and the wall mount. Place some towels under the unit to protect the counter, as these units are heavy, since you are reaching out over counter to handle.  Hope this helps, as I have replaced many with no issues.  Just look for a hidden screw if you are still having an issues with removal.  If I was closer, I could install one for you.
