Power Cord Reel Not Latching

My power cord reel has stopped latching when I pull it out. I can still hear the ratchet clicking as it moves, but when I stop, it starts rewinding. Does anybody know how to fix this condition?

Thanks,

Maybe this will help. Worked for me.

tearing apart reelcraft 7000 reel

See the part about where to spray some PB Blaster.

Substitute CorossionX for PB Blaster for even better results.  Made mine start working like new again.

Mine will stubbornly not latch occasionally.  I have a short wooden wedge in the basket of stuff in the bay that wedges into the cable reel opening against the cable and holds it in place. The next time it always seems to latch.  Lube is a good plan. Just enough or it will get all over everything.

Could always replace it.  There's a used power reel in the classifieds.  ;)

Power reels are usually bulkier and need power.  Manual ones need occasional maintenance.  Manual reel still works after almost 21 years (in December).
