Where's the safe?

I have a 1998 U270. I've heard there is a safe hidden somewhere but we have been unable to find it. Is this hidden safe a myth or does someone out there know where it is? Thanks to the forum for all your help!

Try the bottom of the nightstand on either side of the bed. False drawer that actually opens to a safe.

What Elliott says...probably on the driver side (street side) of the bed.

I don't have one.  May be an option on the U270.

Once found do you have a combo? if not here is no possible way to open if the original code has been changed. unless you are willing to cut the Firebox open. You can contact Foretravel and once you submit required forms they will provide the original combo. About six minutes to remove mount screws at on face and door hinges. Once removed from coach I took a thin slicer wheel and cut off back at about two inches from the rear. This is a firebox, not a safe. It is very easy to cut and if you take your time and cut threw you can actually do without cutting debris and sparks inside to prevent burning up all the money inside. Took me five minutes to cut the cap off the last one i did. The fireproofing is effortless to cut with same blade. Be careful to remove gently without prying so as it can be reinstalled. Once the back is off there is four Phillips screws to remove to remove the plastic lock set. Yes its plastic and never requires cleaning or lubing, ever. Once it is apart you can open the door without further damage. Now that you have the lock out its time to either learn the code or update to your own personal code. Three wheels have there personal installation location. So now you have the code set. Time to reinstall the end you cut off. I wire brush/s hot hot brite the ends cut prior and simply weld back together. Firebox will be close to original fireproofing. I weld inside and outside and paint to match. I also recommend drilling two holes in the bottom to put lag screws in to retain ,however this will also reduce its fireproofing rating and will be a pain to remove if ever needed to cut open again.

98 U270 here I don't have a safe. At least haven't found it in five years of ownership.

Pulled safe out, took it to locksmith, who charged $35.00 to drill the lock and change the combination to one I selected.  Removal and re installation 15 minutes at the most.

A general comment about U270s. During a recent visit at Foretravel I mentioned that I did not have the air fitting so that I could air up a tire. The service manager said he probably built my coach and looked at all the normal places for the air fitting. He finally went to the computer and came back to say that this wasn't a standard feature until 2001 on U270. That surprised him. Mine also came without the joystick for the retarder. It doesn't have a safe. I added the joystick two years ago, I can't imagine ordering a coach without that feature now that I have it. Doors, windows, features evolved over the years along with customer options incorporated into individual coaches.

My '81 FTX had the safe hidden under the floor of the closet, carpeted over and not noticeable.  I only found it when looking in the storage compartment or bay as we now call them saw a big metal pipe hanging down. It is a household floor safe normally installed in concrete. Looked in the paperwork that came with the coach and found the serial number and manufacturer. Had to get a paper notarized and mailed it to the manufacturer and received the combo in the mail.

The safe in our 1989 Grand Villa is in the floor right in front of the DW's chair in the cockpit. The cover is carpeted over, and is very hard to see unless you know where it is. Just FYI for y'all out there wondering where it might be on the earlier coaches.... Just start lifting gently on the carpet right about where the DW's feet would rest and voila!!!, there she be!!!!!!!

When we went to pick up our coach, a young man was showing us how everything worked. He said :"You won't believe what I found!! I was vacuuming the carpet up front on the passenger side and the carpet lifted up! There is a safe that somebody put there!!"
I didn't have the heart to tell him that it was an option at FOT. (I read about it in the manuals we got a week before)
On our older GVs all one has to do is walk up and look in the front passenger wheel well and the metal box is right there.

When we go to TX for the winter we fill the safe with Wisconsin air and when we get there we let it out. When we leave to come home we fill it with TX air.

Now you have me all excited, Ill start looking to see if my coach has one, though being an 87 model it may not. I love a treasure hunt. The journey continues.  ^.^d

Recently purchased 1987 Gran Villa 36 Ft. long,460 Ford engine with 40,000 miles on it, new tranny has 3000 miles on it, coach has 75000 miles on it, new 5000 watt genny new fridge, new tires. Am both excited and scared out of my wits at the size of this beast. Love it but need time to become accustomed to it's size.  I'm sure it will take time to experience all the secrets this RV has to offer. Any and all advice gratefully accepted.

My 96 270 came with no safe BUT came with factory installed electric tank drain valves and joy stick. Pretty well have to look a model over and make no bets on what it may or may not have from the factory.

Although it will effect fireproofing I drilled two holes in the bottom of the firebox (it's really not a safe) and screwed it to the floor. Covered screw heads with hi temp RTV

On the 295 we had the safe was a safe place for Ruth to stack all her chocolate  bars etc plus we kept copies of all our Credit cards, passports and vehicle registrations etc just in case!
I also put a copy of the unlocking info of safe under the
Lift up dash cover, but marked the sequence in reverse so if someone else has  access they need a bit of time to figure it all out, hopefully.
