I learned today that Keith is striking out on his own.
He is in the process of leaving Motorhomes of Texas and will be opening his own consulting business.

Good for him. He could still be working with his prior employer and this will allow more competitive shop rates. Ive never meet him but have figured out he knows his stuff

I wrote Danny yesterday evening, I do not know what is going to happen, at least to me, when we lose senior people in the RV repair world.  Businesses can hire younger folks, train them over time.  We most all began in jobs that way

If we were lucky, we had a mentor, a trainer.  But businesses cannot provide that easily if they do not have the senior people to train them and monitor the work products.  One of the worse outcomes I hear from people is to be told something is fixed and get down the road only to find it is not really fixed.

Not to mention when you are on the road and need help.  Often Forum members step up and try to help with those.  But we need the business technicians to call.

Senior experienced people of integrity like Keith Risch, Aubrey Lee, Mike Rodgers, and David Whitehead will be and are missed.  Thankfully others remain, but the ranks are thinning.

Thanks to all the RV techs for your help over the past ten years.

Keith

Keep us posted.  If he's opening his own shop, we'll definitely want to use him.  Keith has been our go-to since the initial inspection and I so appreciate his advice and expertise.

Might FOT finally get him?  Might be hard to be a one man operation?  One of the most conscientious and knowledgeable in the service industry, hope he gets the best, he deserves it.  You know he has even gone out of state to funerals of customers?  Horticulturist in a big way.  Took care of his employer's best interests, imho.

A savvy  buyer can make a check list that covers most of the issues that might be found in a prospective coach but, if possible, an owner or inspector can spot issues that a newcomer to Foretravels could easily miss. Since some issues can be quite expensive to fix, the cost of an inspection is very little compared to the potential repair costs.

Boat and aircraft buyers will frequently use an inspector as part of a pre-purchase agreement.

A month ago, Keith told me he offered his services to FOT to work on older coaches. They weren't interested.

Perhaps someone who talks to him can suggest he become a commercial member of this forum so the rest of us can contact him when we need his services.

Thanks for the replies. I have a friend who is going to look a SOB at motor homes of Texas. He's going to try to get Keith to inspect if he finds one to buy.
