dryer and filters for 12V Aux Compressor

Hi everyone,
I am working on replacing some parts associated with the 12V compressor.

1- filter - Parker #06F1C00021 which is mounted before the dryer this seems to be a filter with a 40 micron rating. i tried to take the filter off but couldn't . This also has what i believe is an automatic moisture purge valve attached at the bottom.  i think the new part # is 06F12AC.

2- Dryer. X06-02-000
3- desiccant- unsure what is in there now but MOT put it in there. the diameter of the beads are about 1/16" to 1/8" . when i first purchased the coach, the diameter of the beads were about a 1/4". according to my Wilkerson paperwork i need part # DRP-95-303.

4-filter- Parker 06F11BC. this has a 5 micron filter and a manual water drain at the bottom.

I have only found the dryer as an exact match online.
i am also unsure what size fittings are needed if I can't reuse the ones that are on there now?
how often are these filters changed?
are both filter units supposed to have O rings? if so how many in each one.

thanks

The desiccant can be refreshed in the microwave.  Pour it out on a paper plate or microwave safe plate, one layer deep.

Start with 2 minutes on high, then add 30 seconds at a time as needed.  It will remove the moisture from the beads.  They change color when complete (likely from pink to blue depending on the desiccant).

Thanks Dan
I put mine in the oven at 350 for 4 hrs.
Still pinkish some blue. Couldn't believe it took so long because of small desiccant diameter.
Ordered new desiccant yesterday along with dryer.
Still researching other 2 filters

So here is what I found once I started to take things apart.

The filter before the dryer had desiccant inside the 40 micron filter due to the hole I found in the tube assembly of the dryer. I imagine that when the auto drain would kick in it was vacuuming the desiccant through the hole back towards the 40 micron filter.

The fitting joining the filter and dryer was partially clogged.

Surprisingly the fitting exiting the dryer was completely clean.

I'll be replacing the assembly before the dryer.

@Lt403  can you post pictures of your whole set up. I'm also wanting to service my auxiliary air compressor but I haven't quite gotten there yet. Thanks for posting this thread. It was next on my list on my new to me Nimbus.

Frank I too `will be addressing this although I'm still in the planning stages. We do have different systems but this is my personal plan.
1 toss all the filter and drain and pressurization system
Reason for this is compressor toast
              Unreasonable repair costs versus replacement
2 failed water removal by prior owner.
Forward pressure tank 1/2 filled with water.
3 Many improved water removal systems cheaply available, plasma arc tools require better.
Larger, much larger desiccant removal filter. New dryer is one liter in size and desiccant availed cheap in bulk.
Only item I plan to reuse is the water drain solenoid in the first water separator.
New ARB compressor is a little louder but very robust, IMO.

Eddie- here are some pics that I took before I took things apart.

From the compressor is a white air line going to a "T" fitting that has a manual discharge on the left side and the first filter(40 micron/water separator part #06F1C00021) with automatic drain on the right.

Next is the dryer, part # X06-02-000.

The parts listed above are mounted on the bulkhead to the right  under one of the HWH boxes.

From the dryer is a black air line going to the second filter. This is a 5 micron/water separator with a manual drain part # 06F11BC. This is mounted in front of the compressor.

One day I'll learn to put my pics in order and make annotations 🤔

I'll post more pics when I reassemble.

All of these parts are original. I have never had any water come out when I drain the air tank which is the reason I am keeping the system the same.

Hope this helps.

Scott, I thought about getting an ARB but will wait until the compressor gets tired.

I bought it from a company that was going out of business for a ridiculous price. Desiccant dryers has become the new rage all of a sudden.

The OEM water separator works pretty well. You might want to remove the drain solenoid from the bowl and connect it to the bowl with a piece of tubing to reduce strain on the bowl.  This is an early failure point.  Maybe q drain tube to the outside as well if you are getting g lots of water collected.

There are other water collectors with automatic (non electric) drain valves that work just as well.

One of my things to do is to get that little compressor to work. But at 24 degrees- not a top priority at the moment

Finished putting everything back together again this morning after having to go to three different stores to track down the quarter inch double male NPT's that I needed to replace.

I replaced the outdated first filter with Parker part number 06F12AC. I reused the plastic bowl that I have with the automatic drain.

New air dryer from Wilkerson part number X0602000 along with new desiccant that came with the dryer.

The last filter I did not have to replace the assembly and I'm waiting for a new 5 µm filter

I think you have a enviable system. Mine will be very similar with a ARB compressor. Very nice job. Curious why they never ran the automatic drain outside? Also want to remote mount my front tank drains similar to the wet tank at the side of the coach were reachable. My compressor tank was half filled with water when i first drained it. Crazy.

@Lt403 on the second and third picture of your desiccant bowl.  Does it just unscrew to get to the desiccant?  I need to replace mine this weekend.

I purchased the bulk desiccant and premeasured/weighed out replacement portions and stored in mylar bags (amazon).

Pre portioned replacement packs makes it less than 5 minute job to replace the old with new and easier to not spill. Old desiccant can be saved and recycled/re-dried if desired.

When the desiccant turns pink it is time to dry it out.  Empty the desiccant bowl into an uncovered paper bowl and put it in the microwave for a minute on med-high to high.  Stir it around and let it sit for maybe a minute.  It will be a med blue, maybe some pink left. Put it back in the the MW for another minute. By then it should be dark blue.  It might take more or less time, maybe less power.

Let it cool and put it back in the desiccant born and put it back into the dryer.  As long as it turns blue it should be good for another go.  Use care, the little beads don't always do what you expect.

My desiccant bowl just pulls down after you remove the metal guard.
Pull nice and slow so you don't spill it.

So I have to ask if my coach is missing something. My 12 v compressor does not have any of these filters that everyone is talking about. Is it doing it's job? Should I be adding something? Can anyone advise by looking at the photo if the glass area water filter is actually doing anything?
