Reupholstery in Puerto Penasco

I had our dining area seats redone in Puerto Penasco, five years ago, by Munez. I had them redo them, twice. Never was real happy with the final product, although I have seen his work on other Foretravels, and I know that there are many who are happy with him.
I have been told, by a good buddy of mine, that there is another company that does this work near Jesse's. Does anyone have his info, and any comments on materials, workmanship, length of time needed, etc.
Thanks

I think we were the first of the Foretravels to have our seats done by Muñoz back in '14. In importing cars starting back in 1973, I learned a bit of how to deal with upholstery shops both here and in Mexico. With many cars I imported, the center part of the seat was fabric so I had the shops replace the fabric with matching vinyl. This was mostly done in TJ or Mexicali. We also took our sofas, motorcycle seats to Mexico quite a few times going way back. Playa Bonita RV Park recommended David and I'm sure got a few pesos for doing so. We went by the shop and picked out the material we wanted, negotiated the price and time to to the job. He came out to the park and pulled the seats out, taking them back to his shop as part of the deal. I told him I wanted the seats to be done exactly like the originals down to the last little detail. He has many books of materials in all types of fabrics. He was not able to obtain any perforated vinyl at the time for another job I had in mind. So, for about 4 days, I would stop by once in the morning and again in the afternoon to check on the work. In the end, he did a great job and today, it looks as if he just did the work. At just over $500 for both seats, it was a deal.

It dealing with many shops in Mexico, I've only had excellent work done. Can't say David is any worse or better than any other shop but if you make what you want done in detail, you won't get poor work at any shop, here or in Mexico. Just look as some examples before you commit. Same with paint. But then, no one can do the graphics like Antonio.

Look at our old posts from 2014 to see the job he did or I can post the photos again.

There are several other shops in PP so drive around, look at the work and bargain. Border towns are also good but no ocean and seaside RV parks.

Kudos to those of you who are happy. I am happy for you.
My original post requested the name and phone number of the other upholsterer in PP.
Although I had asked about that specific shop, we would be interested in the shop that John mentions, in San Carlos. Could you provide the name and number of THAT shop. And would you know if he has access to quality materials needed, foam and syn leather??? We would prefer somewhere closer to Mazatlan. Thanks.

Glenn,

I count about 20 upholstery shops in Mazatlan itself. Photos of the shops and reviews are at the bottom of the page. Use a translator on your phone or tablet to communicate if not confident with Spanish. They will all have excellent material. No sign of any kind of wear on our seats. Better than factory. Google Maps

The material we chose was much thicker than the factory Ultraleather vinyl and does not have the sticky feel plus it does not come apart like the UL vinyl. The thicker material we chose does not make for a as tight of a fold on the corners but is exactly as David did in 2014 with zero wear. Sofa we had done in Mexicali over 20 years ago is still perfect too.

Marine vinyl is usually the most rugged and has lots of UV resistance in it but the thicker material does not make the super square corners the thin stuff does.

Photos are low resolution so they don't take up much space. PM if you want hi rez images.

Glen, one I have dealt with in Mazatlan by the flower market does nice work as I saw them doing a total car restoration of seats and panels. I will look at Google maps and send a link if I can.
Just had a look and having problems finding it on map, but it is one block behind the Flower Market in Old Town maybe Aquilies Serdan. It is a large building painted blue on south side of town.
It is worth a drive as they also have lots of rolls of fabrics and mucho real Sunbrella materials used for boat and rv awnings.

Yes, Twig sent me the name of the guy I was looking for.
I was quoted $5000 usd to redo the seats at MOT.
Decided to give a local guy a shot at them. He picked them up, delivered two weeks later, as agreed.
Price was less than $500 usd
We're very happy.

Glenn,

How about the name and address of the shop. Others may be interested in their work.

Amy and I were going to try and find the shop that John mentioned, above, near the flower shops. It was more difficult to find than we hoped There are LOTS of shops in Mazatlan. I went into one, just to get an idea of what would be a fair price for our project. I showed them pictures of our seats, picked out a fabric and told them I needed new foam. We communicated via WhatsApp. He gave me a price that was UNDER $300usd.
I decided to use a friend of Freddie. He is the guy we all use here, on the Isla de la Piedra, to repair our bodywork and such in the RV park. We went to his shop in Mazatlan ( I would have to research that info ), showed him pictures, and picked out fabric.
He had a buddy next door, who spoke SOME english, and we agreed to have Pancho come to us to see the seats in order to give a fair price. When he came to look at it, he quoted me $400 usd. I asked him if that included new foam and materials, all in spanish. I did not want any misunderstandings, so I used my app on the phone to show him the price quoted, in pesos. He nodded yes. I knew that I would pay him more than he quoted, if the work was acceptable. Amy and I both agreed that, even if it wasn't "perfect", it would do for the time being, and be better than what we now had.
I told him I would take them out and borrow a truck to bring them to him, but he told me he would borrow a truck and come get them, which he did. I unbolted them, knowing how hard that would be, from my tile install. He also delivered them to me.
I would post the telephone number, but you need to speak a little spanish. If someone comes down to Mazatlan, it would be in their interest to contact us for all kinds of information, as we have now been here four times for six months a pop. I could then try and help them out. Probably better to do it in PP, if one was traveling that way. Sounds a little easier, although I don't know about the cost difference.
