99 U270 deadbolt fix

Hey all,

We are working on getting the bus ready to pass onto new owners, and one of the problems that I had to deal with was a deadbolt lock that had been challenging to lock and unlock for years, until finally it gave up the ghost.

I did what I always do, which is mine the experience of this great group of Foretravel folks. The search I ran gave me some information, but not being a locksmith I was a little confused. I had attempted to fabricate a piece to replace the tailstock on the lock cylinder, but that did not work.

After removing the lock and measuring, I tossed a hail mary and ordered a part from Amazon. It worked like a charm and the lock now works better than it did when we bought the bus.

The part is a "Prime Line" patio door cylinder lock part #E2103. The only modification was moving the retaining screw from the short retaining position to the longer retaining position. Once you have the lock out and remove the barrel containing the pins it will be easy to see what I am talking about.

While I had the lock removed I sprayed the bolt slide actuator mechanism with silicon lubricant so the bolt will slide easily in and out.

I wish I had known that this was going to be successful, because I would have taken pictures, but hopefully having this info in the memory banks of the forum will at least point anyone with a similar problem in the right direction.

Happy Trails!

Len

PS the cost of the part was $8.20 plus tax
