Have you verified that your generator DOES output 240 VAC.

Yes sir the meter showed 120 on each leg, I did notice that the 110v legs, on shore power, it is a little higher voltage 123-124, seems more consistent on the generator

Did you check leg to leg?
If you have 240 there then someone rewired you generator as it is only a 120 gen. OEM

2 9000 BTU units could work and run on 115.  Mine draws 8-10 amps max.      Ihave a  single 12000 unit .

now i had better go look, the meter on the wall showed 120 ea leg with the gen set, i measured with a multi meter on the two hot legs out in the breaker box and it measured 240 leg to leg

If you pull the top off the transfer switch it will give you access to both the generator and shore power at the same place so you can check with a meter.

Mike have not had time to look at it, the panel on the wall reads 120 on both legs with the generator and with shore power and shows 240v off the 2 hot legs on at the breaker box. I had a HVAC tech out the other day and he seems to think it will work, he is going to talk to his supplier to double check, i want to follow how the fellow from Sky Management did his, (you tube). Am pondering the air intake for the compressor unit. my idea is to run a heavy Aluminum screen for the exhaust, and louvers for the air intake on the storage basement doors, only issue with that is will be drawing hot air during summer and cold air in during winter to that part on basement

And, you DID verify this 240 VAC at the breaker box on generator?

No, one meter just show voltage between hot L1 and neutral and the other one L2 and neutral.

Said another way, were you on 30 amp shore power with just 120 VAC, not 240 VAC, they would both still read 120 VAC.

Thanks for the help on this, the Generator is indeed 120 vac as wired, i would have had a real puzzled look on my face when it did not work off the gen set, talked with tech support at power tech he said just takes moving 2 wires and pulling the jumper to get it to run 120/240vac not sure if I feel that brave or not once the magic smoke goes out of electrical units it is tough to get it back in.
. I think i will look at a 1ton as an option as well thanks again

With no slides the 12000 BTU should suffice.  We blow the cool around with the little fans .
