wanted to buy, 1989 Oshkosh, Front wheel bearing Seal,

Hi all,
I need to buy a front wheel inner bearing Seal, Unobtainable in OZ,
Its for my Coach, 1989, 36 foot ORED, Diesel Pusher with a 300 HP Turbo Cat and 4 speed Allison Auto,

Its for a 1989 Oshkosh Chassis, V917-R,
Oshkosh Part Number,  2EH678, That number is out of my Book for my Coach, ,

National Bearing seal number,  B37012 # BGO
Thats the number on the seal I have pulled out,

What I do need is for some one in the USA to buy the seal and send it to me, EXPRESS AIR MAIL,
When you have the cost of the seal and the price for the air freight,
Tell me by PM and I can put the money straight into your bank account,

My Mechanic has all the other parts and bearings, But this one Seal is not available here,
I had water in the front axle and it was squealing, Failed seal,
Lucky I caught it in time,  Seized bearing would have been expensive,

When I lived in Canton, OH I called on Timken Bearing. The place is so big they had their own locomotives!!

My seal is 5-3/8 OD,  4-1/2 ID,
Plus a month to get here, ???????

Graeme said he got his seals and bearings from Freightliner in Hallam,
So I will try there on Tuesday when every thing is open again,

The closest I can find before my morning breakfast and tea to those dimensions is 5.374/5.384 by 0.884 wide all to fit a 4.500 shaft.  Timken number 370124A, page 61 of the Timken National seals catalog.

Just got an email from Brian. He is going down to a Freightliner dealer and hopes to get the seal from there--same as Graeme got.

We need to keep in mind that because of specialized manufacturing techniques, Timken set the standard for ball bearing dimensions over a century ago, and the seal manufacturers aren't far behind.  Ball bearings and grease seals can be purchased through most any industrial supply house specializing in such items.  You don't need to go to a truck dealer.  Even them, you're not purchasing bearings and seals for a Foretravel, but sizes specified by the manufacturer of the axle.

No joy any where here for my seal,
I would have driven near 200 kays to different parts dealers,
But I had it pointed out that its an OEM seal, Made specifically for Oshkosh,
No one else can make them,
Its a seal within a seal, The inner is pressed on and the seal rotates inside the outer seal,
Its very good for keeping the grunge out,

I sent an email direct to Oshkosh in Wisconsin, Parts dept,
Their parts online is about $15-00 USD for the seal, plus Air Express to Melbourne Australia,
Now its wait and see what they come up with, ??????
I gave them the actual sizes of the seal, So there will be no mistakes regarding sizes,
And the number off the seal,
Hopefully they still have one, It is 30 year old, I ordered two, Just in case for future problems,

Yesterday I sent Brian seal info and the inside diameter was 4.6" and turns out he needed 4.500".
So, as I understand it he took my info and applied it to his search and found out that he could buy a Spicer-Dana axle seal B370124 BGO and then he intends to alter the .984" width by about 1/16" so he can use it.
Got the seal right there in Australia for (gulp!) $110.00

The front axle inner seal on the Oshkosh 36 foot chassis, V917-R
Was,  National, B37012  BGO  Taken from the seal, No longer made,
National was taken over by Timken,

The new seal, B370124  BGO,  Is Made by Spicer-Dana, It fits Volvo I think,
Is .984 wide, About 2 mm or 1/16 wider than the old one,
The old one was 7/8th of an inch.
But it will still fit, You may have to shave the steel side, (inner) down a bit,
This one is a common size and in plentifull quantitys,

AA Bearings and Seals got it for me, They are in Warrandyte, Vic, Australia,
Which got me curious as I have never seen a bearing shop in Warrandyte, and  I have traveled thru there for years,
So I google mapped it,
Its a small farm dwelling on the side of the road with a small sign out the front with axle bearings fitted,
Other than that, You wouldnt know it was there, I certainly didnt,
But Adrian was the one who chased down the sizes and got me the seal,
As it was $90-00 he wanted to make sure it would fit before buying,
It came from QLD which is about 1000 miles from where we are,

Thanks to all that helped with info,
Im still awaiting replys from my emails to Oshkosh in Wisconsin, Duhhhh,

The Stemco seal is 4.6 inches ID and wont seal as its too big, STM 320-2181

Hey Brian, I forgot to tell you. I called Oshkosh yesterday at the number you gave me.
The guy told me they didn't have any seals like you wanted and didn't know anything about the V-917-R chassis or any chassis like Foretravel bought from Oshkosh Truck and they have no records.

I even have a very thick service manual for the chassis as well,
No wonder they registered my coach as a Mobile caravan, as My chassis dont exist, Hahahaha

I have 3# of loose tea coming from San Francisco, California 2,688 miles away.

Congratulations on finding a seal that will work.

FWIW The Timken catalog has a section listing bearings by dimension.

Sorry, my autism wired brain has been focused on seal technology and sources.
Yes! Timken makes seals, and consolidated the seal sizes from several manufacturers and offers a no-duplicates list of seals.
The seal Mr. B3 needs in way back in the 37000 section, a Timken 370124A
