When I read these posts I remember a time when it wasn't wind but rain that damaged our Zip Dee patio awning, along with a bit of poor design on Zip Dee's part.
We were camped at a Nat'l CG south of Waverly, TX and I had the awning closed up to the "caravan" position. For those who don't know, this is when the awning is only unfurled about 2'.
Rain (maybe I should say dumped) poured so hard that the awning fabric cradles and the little #10-32 bolt that holds the rear awning roll axle in the pewter casting broke off. Maybe being about 25 years old it was worn almost thru. Anyway, the long lower rafter arm slammed down onto the concrete and broke the pewter casting. Ordered a new pewter casting from Zip Dee and had it within three days.
The service tech at ZD said they no longer made my style but he managed to come up with one that would work, with a couple slight mods. So I got everything back together, including the fabric where it goes into the awning cover.
I didn't have a #10-32 bolt & nut so I used a 3/16 dia spring pin. It is still there.
Later on we were at Crane's Mill CG at Canyon Lake, on our return route to WI, and I went to open the awning and the front end #10-32 bolt & nut fell out in to my hand!! So, another 3/1" spring pin.
I no longer trust the little #10-32 bolts of any grade.
